We had some rain.........Fungi

Rain tends to mean fungi at most times of the year.
Went up to my favourite haunt near Blackheath, yep plenty up and about as expected.
All in my usual dark side, I still need to get another flash so I can play a bit more with the lighting.

I'm seeing (and photographing) a lot more fungi on the dog walks, too, after the recent rain.

I love the colours in the first shot. The stalk bit is way more colourful that the top bit.

I have been shooting mostly with the pop-up flash on my D7000 with the mini diffuser on the lens. I discovered that I can put the SB800 into slave mode. Maybe you could try that, too, and then you won't need to get another flash (unless, of course, you want an excuse to buy one).

love Hi Colin, Having taken my first few macro pictures in the field recently, I can appreciate your pictures more! Love #2 especially. Great texture.

For the lighting, why don't you try a portable light-tent (and or reflectors). The other idea is to use continuous light for a bit of painting if you have your camera on a pod.

Colin, I am glad to see more fungi.

I think these could do with a tad more light, they look a bit too dark on my screen (calibrated last month...but maybe I should recalibrate again). But as a suggestion, why not a scale next to these tackers?

Cameron, only #1 is a smidgen under. I reckon the rest are ok on my side. :?

Can someone else with a calibrated display confirm?

I had another look....#3 is pretty much on....#2 looks a smidgen dark, and #1 looks a smidgen and a bit dark....I'll probably recalibrate again but I will be interested to see what others say (this is a very old panel that I am using)

Thanks all,

Cameron,

, I suppose if I were to try to do an ident guide that could be quite useful. You have seen how haphazard my technique is, I don't have enough hands for a scale object as well. At least if they are earthbound a coin or such would be easy enough. I do like to keep you guessing though.

Suren you will have to come up one weekend after some rain and have a play. It is easier than landscapes I think.

Yes Andrew I could do that, Cameron sorted me out on this in January. But I am thinking of a cheap SB600 if I can as it will give me more options for other types of pics as well. ( so yes it may be an excuse to buy more!)

Yeah I do like em a bit dark. I do have a couple of #1 that are a bit better lit I suppose. If only the old ring flash had the power I want these days I might use it again. Maybe it will work better on the 60mm as I would be closer to the subject.
That is food for thought.
