Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. African portraitsHi everybody,
This is my first post here. My girlfriend and I went to South Africa for three months and these are just three protraits we did while we were there. Please give some feedback
They are different...and that's always a good thing. The sepia is a bit bright...maybe knock it back a little with DESATURATE. Nice to see black and white images....oh..and welcome to the forum! Looking forward to seeing more of your imagery and posts.
Regards
Matt. K
Hi iklint and welcome to the forum - first post with pics - fantastic
I actually prefer the middle of the three shots simply because you have caught something in the boys eyes between anger and sorrow - beautiful. Look forward to seeing a lot more of your photos Chris

Firstly welcome lklint, I know that as many of us have, you will come to really enjoy the time you spend here. Secondly, congrats on your first post. I really like the first image the most, it's crisp, clean and clear and shows a kind of unassuming dimention from the boy. Would love to see more of your posts.
Geoff.

Welcome. I think the first shot is great and uses B & W well. I find the out of focus hand in the 2nd one quite distracting, & less so in the third one. I do think that what I can see in the second one is evocative, I'd just liked to have seen the whole face. All up a very good start though and wise use of colour (or absence thereof) for these as these images are stronger as a result. Thanks for sharing. Edit: And please update your profile with your location. It helps us know if you're a neighbour or not Peter

Hi Nicole, Yeah, we had an excellent time, but as we worked at a safari lodge, we saw only a tiny fraction of SA. Would love to go back there. But I'll post some more of our pictures, if the forum would like? Lars
Yeah, great subjects and your portraits look good. I'd love to see more of your trip to Africa. I like the first one most.
