Curly Conditions at South Curl Curl

Well in hindsight i think we had half of the aussie photography forums represented at curl curl today, there quite a few keen beans out on the rocks today hoping for some good conditions.

It was interesting with some good waves but a location i probably will not go back to..plus them rocks are slippery.

The first 15 shots i took were utter shite, i just pointed the camera at something and hoped for the best.

things improved slightly and there are actually some nice rocks and compos up around teh corner.
Comments and critique, good bad ugly or indifferent welcome.

I quite like #1 - almost bigstopperish

#2 is very nice and probably my pick (did you HDR this?) - really nice gold flecks everywhere and the green nicely contrasts this. I sorta wish the sky could have been a little better but I'm still feeling it.

#3 is the sky I want in #2 but I prefer the composition of #2 much more

Not feeling #4 at all

The first looks very dramatic....and I do agree, very BIG STOPPER!

I love #2, it does like HDR, but with you I'll have to wait to see what you say, because I do know what you can do with NX2. It wouldnt be your work without the trademark green stuff

no big stopper that day :)

#2 is a single frame, no hdr and I hear you about the sky, but i am warming to it and its a bit different in my books.

let me help you out with the feeling on #4 ..lets see..yep..it was cold and wet.

cheers for the comments.

yeah no HDR but a fair amount of shadow recovery and a GND filter (0.6) - nothign like some green action and it was awesome stuff there...

I've had a few looks at these. I reckon it's nice to do that before you launch into critique.

#2 and #3 are the best IMO.

#2 is great spotting and execution and makes it look like an alein landscape to a certain extent. Very exotic and I certainly didn't see this perspective that day.

#3 although quite neat doesn't have the compositional strength from #2. The sky is better though.

#1 has slick composition which makes it an overall winner but not exotic like #2.

#4 is weak interms of composition. The movement makes it seem that there is camera shake. Perhaps it's an illusion.

yeah its pretty crap really, i was trying to get the 3 layers, the rock/cement, pool and sky, however only one part (the sky) came to the party :)

i really like the second one, but i think a tighter crop of the the top half work better imo.

Great photos Gerry. # 2 sticks out the most for me but I like #3 too. The rocks texture is so nice and looks like it's from a different planet.

This is one of my favourite beaches.
I absolutely love the first one and think would look excellent big, and framed! Well done gerry!
