SB 800 Instruction Book

Postby Greg B on Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:41 am

I know we have slagged off the SB800 instruction book before, and to continue is probably churlish.

However, I am determined to master my SB800 in all its wonder and flexibility, so I am studying the manual as one part of that process.

I don't know whether this is a curiosity of the flash or the manual, but on p.70..

Power Zoom Function
. OFF : Activated
. ON : Cancelled

Power Zoon Function using the wide flash adaptor etc
. OFF : Cancelled
. ON : Activated

Maybe it is just a typo, but whatever, it is confusing/silly.

I would be Birdy, but it would need to coincide with a trip to Sydney, I am there next week and I need to get to Perth and Brisbane over the next month or so, so it is unlikely that I'll be back in Sydney for another couple of months.

This is a great idea Birdy - I'd definately be interested in this, and I think it would be quite a popular topic! I will hopefully see you tomorrow. Fingers crossed anyway :)

Love to be able to get to a Sydney session on the SB800 but it just ain't gonna happen. Is there anyone in Brisbane savvy enough to throw together a workshop for us up here???

I'd be very keen to attend.

Boxerboy oh how I wish that were true. :D I struggle with this piece of equipment as much as the next person. Perhaps we should get together and have a self teach session though. :?:

LOL what a crackup. Perhaps this backwardness is a reflection on the authors of the great read that is the SB800 manual.

I was one that had read and studied in great detail both the SB800 and SB600 manuals for a good 6-8 weeks before committing to a purchase of one. In the end, I figured I needed the extra features and abilities on top of what an old Metz 30BCT4 that I was using at the time could deliver (as good as that flash was, with fairly consistent flash exposures automatically determined by its onboard light sensors). I'm still impartial to Metz flashes (I believe they're the industry's best), but the SB800 has definitely not disappointed.

For a workshop on the SB800 - feel free to drop by and form a mini-mini-meet in HK and I'll teach you what every button does and how every option available changes this and that. :)

When I first came home with my SB 800 I opened the manual and began to read. Next thing I knew everything went blurry and I woke up lieing on the floor shaking and pale. I thought it was just me so I tried reading it again and got violent diarryhia. I posted on this site expecting to be the only one, but it turned out that there were others.

The above is a total lie for effect except the last bit...well mostly a lie.

Excellent idea. I've posted on the Brisbane/Gold Coast thread to gauge interest.
