fEE Error D200 & 80-200

Postby Marvin on Thu Jun 30, 2011 11:10 pm

Hi All,

A couple of weekends ago I went to use my Nikon 80-200 2.8 (push-pull type) with my D200. It is giving me an fEE error, as if the lens isn't locked onto f22 (it is and I have tried fiddling about with the aperture). I get no error with any other lenses and the 80-200 works on my friend's D90 perfectly well.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

That does sound intriguing. Do you have any other D-type lenses that you can test on your D200 to rule out a camera body fault? I would also try cleaning your lens contacts on both the lens and the body as well.

Thanks Cameron. Yes, I have a 50mm 1.8, which works fine on the camera. It is very weird. I haven't dropped it or anything, I just hadn't used it for a while when I pulled it out. I'll try cleaning the contacts.

Has the lens reached its use-by date? It's engraved on the inside of the lens mount.

Are the batteries in the lens ok?

If I can't contribute anything substantial to the discussion, I may as well be creatively cheeky

How does the lens feel when mounted on the body? Is it solid, with no free play?

I've changed the batteries twice and it still has another 2 years left until it's past its use-by date.

It sits firmly when mounted, there is no free play and it is solid.

As mentioned previously....try cotton wool bud with metho and give the contacts a good clean. That may help.

As others have recommended, try cleaning the contacts (body and lens side).

I've had this problem a few times on my 80-400VR and D2H. Cleaning, manually operating the aperture lever (and occasionally doing a reset of the camera) has got it going again. Happens probably every 6 months or so.

Oddly it only happens on the D2H + 80-400VR combo, not on D700 + same lens.

Just cos you own the place? Settle down......

Never seen this problem, but then I disowned my 80-200 push pull soon after it arrived......

Maybe I should pull it out the cupboard and stick it on the better half's D3100  That will stuff her......
