Gerry's Gentlemens Hour Filter

Thanks to Cameron for hooking me up with a ND110 BW filter at short notice. This filter is now officially referred to as the 'Gentlemen's Hour Filter', since i don't have to get up at a stupid hour to achieve the longer shutter speeds - that said I still get up at the crack of dawn, this just means I can take photos for longer.

These are the first few images from a couple of recent mornings, I am surprised how easy it is to compose the frame just by pointing the camera in the right direction and banging off at f8 30 seconds

You've talked me into getting a ND110 BW filter mind you I did a double take when I saw the price for a 77mm lens Ah well what the hell!

They are all very nice. I like 2 and 3 best.

#1 has lots of nice elements - to me it seems perhaps a little overexposed in places

#2 is really very nice but I'm struggling to find my real focal point (not sure if I've expressed this correctly)

#3 - love how it fades off into the distance on the right

#4 also very nice - I reckon you could crop to that distracting shadow at the bottom (left)

Gerry, glad that I got you the filter in time...big shout out has to go out to Scott (Mainline Photo) and the guys at Foto Riesel who all helped to ensure I was able to get the filter.....

I love #1, great green stuff!!

#2 is really attractive, but it lacks a focus...my eyes keep wondering

#3 needs a lone stranger and a set of footprints...great stuff!!

lol, sucker In my opinion there are only two filters (screw in ones) worth owning, that is the ND and the CPL, with the ND i guess its just a matter of how much light you wanna block out.

nah, just some nutter who likes sunrise walks and needs something to do at the end of it all...I think whale watching might have been a better option!

Where abouts is this?

gentlemens land? it is on the far north coast, th ebeach and river shot is at Evans Heads which just south of Ballina. The other two images are a bit further towards the coast and are about a 25 min bush walk - great spot since the only access is via foot and I am only game to to it in winter cause its death adder and brown snake territory during summer.

Out of the set, the 3rd one is the stand out. What gets me is the tones you've captured and the pano crop really helps the composition.

yeah I also love the tones, the ND really helps in this department, i am trying to get that minimalist style shot where the tones are the primary focus and there are simple uncluttered elements, even something like a straight on beach shot may work...

I like these, however, I would crop the pano shot further to remove the shadows at bottom-left as they distract somewhat.
