Help with BrisbaneHi all,
I'll be in Brissie on the 15th and 16th of August and was hoping to get some shots of the Story Bridge on the evening of the 16th. Can anybody suggest the best place to shoot from? I'll be staying in the CBD but don't mind a long walk. Cheers David 7D, 60D, 70-200mm f/4LIS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 580EX II
Re: Help with BrisbaneEagle Street peer or Bowen Tce are the
best vantage points, I believe. I hope this helps. http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&source=hp&q=Bowen+Tce+Brisbane&oq=Bowen+Tce+Brisbane&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=2580l10190l0l10609l19l19l0l10l10l0l336l2035l0.5.2.2l9l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=6361ca6871464fda&biw=1920&bih=985 http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1920&bih=985&wrapid=tlif131236883715211&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=eagle+street+pier+brisbane&fb=1&gl=au&hq=eagle+street+pier&hnear=0x6b91579aac93d233:0x402a35af3deaf40,Brisbane+QLD&ei=xyg5TpasLOjymAXRzfC4Bw&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&ved=0CAQQtgM&cid=0,0,14069786919466416940
Re: Help with BrisbaneDepends what you are looking for.
Kangaroo Point can be helpful, the boardwalk in front of the CBD restaurants is also good. Bowen Terrace does give a great view of the bridge with the CBD buildings behind, but if you are not familiar with the city it can be a bit problematic. Could you explain: What time are you considering? Late afternoon, early evening, night? Do you have a particular viewpoint in mind - ie have you seen an image that you want to emulate? Are you looking to include any other aspects of the city? I will try to help if you can indicate what you are hoping to achieve. TFF (Trevor)

Re: Help with BrisbaneThanks guys - that sounds really good.
I'm working almost next door to the Eagle st Pier till approx 6pm so was thinking of shots from there - then making my way along the boardwalk as the sun goes down and getting some shots from Bowen tce at night. Does that sounds like a good plan? I didn't have any specific shots in mind but like shots from both side so figure I can get more night shots from Eagle st on my way back to the hotel. Always keen for advice on other good shots. What time is the sun setting at the moment? Thanks again for the help guys - much appreciated 7D, 60D, 70-200mm f/4LIS, 17-50mm f/2.8, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 Macro, 580EX II
Re: Help with BrisbaneEven though I grew up, lived and worked in Brissy for years I've never photogrpahed the Story Bridge.
I would suggest you do a walk to get the whole picture, what you do is walk along the top of the cliffs at Kangaroo Point, across the bridge, back along the waterfront on the city side, to the goodwill bridge just past where the Riverside Expressway crosses the river, to South Bank and again back to Kangaroo Point. There are many many angles you can shoot. And that is not considering the angles from New Farm shooting back towards the bridge (harder to get to since the flood washed away the Riverwalk)...... Can I suggest you also go for a walk and suss it out on the 15th if your schedule allows, and shoot what you can as well, as it is easy for bad weatehr to stuff your opportunity right up if you wait to the end. Equally - if you can do it, go for an early walk and try morning shots..... but I know when I get away for work, there is NO way I'm gunna get up for a 6am photo walk, after generally drinking huge amounts until midnight. Marble Bar at the Sydney Hilton is proof of that, and I still had another day of tax conference after last drinks were called In preparation, have a look around the internet at some of the posted shots...... I know that on http://forums.overlander.com.au/viewforum.php?f=20 there have been quite a lot of good angles of the bridge posted over the years, often with a comment as to where from. Re: Help with BrisbaneThe sun is setting at around 5:30pm. Will you have a tripod?
You will get shots from along Eagle St pier precinct. Great shots can be taken from Wilson Outlook on Bowen Terrace - you get the whole width of the bridge with the CBD buildings in the background - like this, and even better at sunset. Sounds like you are on the right track. TFF (Trevor)
