Sydney NightsHi All,
Some Images from my last night photo session http://hlop.net/gallery/SydneyNights Comments and critique are very welcome Mikhail
Hasselblad 501CM, XPAN, Wista DX 4x5, Pentax 67, Nikon D70, FED-2
"City from Blues Point" & "harbour bridge & skyline from blues point" are both great shots. The others from Blues Point lack a little oomph for me (I'd like a little less monochrome feel to them ie more colour highlights - maybe try a few in B & W to make use of the lack of colour)
Opera House from McMahon's Point is fantastic Mikhail, that's one to frame. Peter

You have such a great city to photograph. Melbourne just doesn't cut it in my opinion. The Harbour Bridge from Circular Quay is a ripper
I love how Luna Park under it is glowing. Nice shots Hlop Mic.
Thanks guys!
Peter (stubbsy): Could you point to pics which you want to see in B&W? I'll give them a try mic: Don't be shy! You've got good city too! There are good places around Yarra river and in city itself Mikhail

They are really nice pics but i would like to make one suggestion, do a PRE-white balance on them first to get a less yellow lighting, especially on the bridge,
Changing the white balance can make an amazing difference to night shots. Thanks for sharing. Steve.

Thanks Steve. Fair enough! Grey card won't help in this situation, won't it? Could you share how to do PRE_WB for night shots? Mikhail

Mikhail The ones I was thinking of are #2 and #3 - both Opera House From Blues Point and maybe even #12 Circular Quay Peter

do your own ...Stubbsy,
I'm probably very much jumping the gun regarding things happening on Saturday. How would you feel about taking night shots on Saturday ? I personally don't know if I'm going to last the day if attending Birddog's 4 am meeeting, however I could recover in the afternoon. I'm also feeling a bit safer being in company regarding night shots. Cheers CD
Re: do your own ...
Sorry Christian I won't be in Sydney Saturday night. I'm going back to the NSW Central Coast to visit a friend after the minimeet at birddogs then driving back down Sunday morning. Edit: Do people actually ATTEND the VR meets Peter

Re: do your own ...
I wasnt even aware that there were two 4 'o' clocks in the day!
HLOP. if you have a read of the WB tutorial it explains how to do a PRE-WB, but i would recommend finding a source of light of the same or closely similar colour to the ones in your subject and use that as your reference light source. You may have to get close to it for the PRE-WB to be successful.
Otherwise, shoot in NEF and adjust whitebalance afterwards using the Tungsten setting. This will reduce the redness in the images and add a bit more blue, which is a truer representation of the colour of the light . Good luck... Steve.
