Lightroom Tethered with Nikon

I don't have access to my camera this weekend, but has anyone used a Nikon in tethered mode with Lightroom ? A long while back I used Nikon Capture NX or something similar. I might have a job later this week where shooting tethered would be very beneficial so I'm interested in any feedback or information / tips & tricks.

I tried it once, but Control Pro it ain't.
All you can do is press the button. Unlike the Nikon offering that allows you to change all the settings from the computer.

I've used it a few times and it works fine - however Greg is correct - whilst you can see the current Aperture/Shutter Speed in Lightroom's display you can't change them just trigger the shutter.

However when I've used it I'm generally shooting with the camera and want the images to go into Lightroom so I/we can see them on the big screen and for that it works perfectly.

Primarily that's what I was thinking of using it for, near instant feedback of what the pics look like at higher res then the LCD on the back.

Another question, if I shoot RAW I imagine it's a bit lardy loading, what happens if I shoot RAW + Jpg is it smart enough just to show the JPG ?

I have an idea there's a setting in Lightroom somewhere for that.

But if you shoot RAW+Jpeg would you really want to see the Jpeg? If your monitor has a gamut larger than sRGB, you would presumably be seeing less information that available in the RAW preview.

To better explain the concept here, I'm thinking of using a laptop and shooting tethered in a "shoot yourself" photobooth style setup. So that a group of people can get infront of the camera press the remote shutter button and have the image pop up on the laptop facing them.

Should work OK. I was doing a demo with my laptop at a tabletop photography night at the Canberra Photographic Society a few weeks ago.

So as promised, returning for the verdict.

Well the Photo booth was a HUGE success, very popular and was getting a work out for 3 hours or so. Everyone seemed to have a great time and I haven't heard so much laughing for a long long time.

On the technical side of things, I had hoped to use my remote radio shutter so they could self trigger the photobooth. However it kept sticking during testing and just bursting 20 shots off, so I abandoned that idea and chose to man the booth myself. This turned out better I think in the end, as there were various heights and widths of groups from single participants to 6-7 people. Also I found the D7000 I had hoped to use for photo boothing lacked a few external plugs (flash and remote) so went for a D700 - 1 umbrella and 1 on camera flash(bounced). I was amazed the eneloops kept their charge for the full night and at times when others were playing photographer they were getting a hard work out.
