Polarising Filter for Canon 16-35 F2.8 IIHi
Would appreciate some opinions/ recommendations for a Polarising Filter for my Canon 16-35 F2.8 II. Been looking at what is available and it's starts getting very confusing with the varieties. Filter size is 82mm Cheers Bruce Cheers, Bruce

Re: Polarising Filter for Canon 16-35 F2.8 IIFirst up, you need circular polariser for Digital. Something to do with the way it intteracts with the AA filter stuck on the sensor.
Apart from that, you get what you pay for, so pay as much as you can afford. But 82mm! Sheesh! Is this on a crop or full frame camera? If it is FF, you will probably want to look at the slim line ones to avoid vignetting as 16mm is fairly wide on full frame. Be wary here. If you intend to stack filters (I often use CPL in combination with ND filters to make things even darker) be aware that some of the slim line CPLs can only go on the front end. i.e. they have no female thread on the front. If you will be shooting into the sun, consider multicoating to reduce flare. Also worth considering are the Hoya HD series. I had HD UV filters on all my lenses on my trip to Antarctica, and they all came back pristine despite some harsh treatment. OTOH I had a "normal" CPL & it came back scratched. I have since replaced it with a HD one but haven't destruct tested it yet. Some people prefer brass mountings (B&W) because plastic (cheapies) and aluminium (Hoya) can bind, but personally I have been using Hoya for years & have never had an unsurmountable problem. They have been recalcitrant at times, but never anything finger pressure was unable to overcome. Greg
It's easy to be good... when there is nothing else to do
Re: Polarising Filter for Canon 16-35 F2.8 IIB+W doesnt do much in the 82mm size in CPL's so my vote goes towards a Hoya Pro 1D.

Polarising Filter for Canon 16-35 F2.8 IIAgreed.
You need one of the slim filters for such a wide lens. I've got one for my 10-22mm and have no complaints.
