When's Lunch?

I was taken by the pigeons hanging out near where the caterers were setting up a lunch venue.
Same photo. Different crop.
Which works better do you think?

The first crop is better as it helps tell the story better. The second image didn't isolate the pigeon enough to tell the full story. The other pigeons, in particular the one landing, causes too much distraction.

Only the lens reputed to have the best bokeh of all... The 85mm f1.4

I was leaning to the first as well, but was wondering if only one pigeon didn't tell the story well enough

That is a surprise for sure. But I'm with Matt, the bad rendition of the background is the first thing that jumped out at me when viewing the image, almost to the point of ruining the shot.

I was leaning to the first as well, but was wondering if only one pigeon didn't tell the story well enough

I think it does, it appears to be waiting for the food to be served. The group of birds in the second crop seems to go about their own business and doesn't relate to the table as strongly.

Cheers
Steffen.
