Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...Thanks to Ray and Gerry for another morning out - company, breakfast and conversation was good as always...
Any feedback most welcomed... The walk down to the beach was a steep concrete driveway but once down it was an easy walk to the nearby rocks to setup. There were a few interesting locations on the rocks, the weather was very mild (no need for warm jumpers, etc) and all was looking good. The clouds however weren't going to play ball and as the sun rose the sky just got gradually brighter with no real cloud action or colour in the sky. It wasn't till well after sunrise that we got a few breaks in the clouds and we had an interesting show of god rays coming down through the clouds. This first is a pre dawn long exposure in the darkness Feeling Blue NIKON D7000 + 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 @ 12 mm, 20 sec at f/5.6, ISO 100 Lacking inspiration for the usual flowing water seascape - possibly the grey conditions set the mood - so I've only included one of these Out to Sea NIKON D7000 + 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 @ 12 mm, 1.6 sec at f/11, ISO 100 + 0.9GND Since I had just acquired my new pride and joy (a Nikon 70-200/2.8 - thanks Sylvia ) I also tried for some compressed detail telephoto landscapes with it - including a closeup of the god rays on show Heavens Rays NIKON D7000 + 70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8 @ 70 mm, 1/10 sec at f/11, ISO 100 Finally once the show was over and we were back to overcast gray I swapped back to the ultrawide and the 10 stop ND for a different view - I only took five long exposures but I was pretty happy with all of them and this is my favourite from the day Purple Meets Green NIKON D7000 + 12.0-24.0 mm f/4.0 @ 14 mm, 20 sec at f/8, ISO 100 + ND3.0 and possibly the most interesting find of the day - an inquisitive octopus stranded in one of the small rock pools D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...Nice Rodney, i like the sun rays one the best with the octopus a close second
gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...#2 Very neat rays here. Nice compo and elements. I think the elements could complement each other better though. The cliff and waves don't have enough impact to offset the rays to add balance. Do you by chance have any longer exposures of the waves? [I can see that the swell was a little flat?]
I am not a fan of the colorised versions. Nice find with the Occy!
Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...Love the sun rays and composition. More detail in the rocks would improve the shot, i'd think.
Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...
I assume you meant #3 - and unfortunately no - I was just using the polariser on the 70-200
Note that I didn't actually colourise these - these colours are basically as shot (Auto WB) with some vibrance boost D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

More of a personal preference rather than critisism. I am no energy police and don't care whether it's the camera or you....
Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...Interesting set...I am almost glad I stayed at home for that one....but the Octopus was a nice find.

Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...Suren/Gerry and others what do you think of this version of #3 - it's an image taken near the other and I've used a different crop (and lightened the rocks more, etc):

Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...
nope, i like the original better - purely based on the composition side of things, that wave provides alot more in the original then in the second, if i have time I would like to have a crack at PPing that one, it has some good potential imo. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...
Thanks Gerry - want me to upload an uncropped original (more at the top and bottom) of the first version? D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Bungan Head - Sunrise Seascapes (and Occy :))...
G'Day Rodney, I had a 2 min play as well. Hope you don't mind.I think a lot can be done with this pic. Many options to PP that would work. Nikons.
Nikkor's.
