Here's a couple of images from the Sydney Blues Festival.

These are all shot with the Nikon V1, and are all OOC JPGs. Resized only

They look pretty good (although I'm not feeling the last). Although I'm not a fan of that dark text the V1 puts over the bottom of each image - perhaps there's something on the lens

Are you saying all the processing happened in-camera? I'm somewhat concerned about the halos, esp in the first image. That one has a heavy-handed HDR look to it. This is much more subtle in no 2 and undetectable (to my eye) in no 3.

Cheers
Steffen.

I'll try to remember to grab them on Monday, once I'm back in Bondi.

Right now I can't get images off the D300, as the card reader I have with me doesn't have a CF slot, and I only have a micro USB cable.

Steffen, I'm shooting RAW + JPG, large, pulling the images off the SD card onto the MBP into CS5, and then just running a script to resize and add the copyright image. I'm less than skilled in CS5, and with the number of images I'm shooting on the V1 and the limited processing skills (and time) - just doing this in bulk for now.

I'll be going through and looking and culling with more selectivity later, but for now, I just want to push some images up and offer some impressions.

FWIW, on the D300 I'm using just the 85 f/1.4, whereas with the V1 I have the 10-30 and 30-110, of which I'm mostly using the latter. While it's a very tough ask, I don't think I'm seeing the acuity of the 85 on the V1 images - I do wish I had the F-mount adapter though, which would make things very interesting.

Manual exposure on the V1 is easy, and once there, its speed of shooting is very good. I will need to read the book on how to make it find focus though, as I don't think it's correctly locating the focus point that I want it to use - sometimes it's picking up the mike stand rather than the performer's eyes. I'm sure that's a Gary issue though. Rattling off a few shots of a performer is a breeze though, and this is going the be very interesting in use trackside.

The camera still feels very solid, and that's an observation that everyone that handles the camera makes.

And it's also very quiet.

Hey, is that brunch I hear calling me?

I quite like them. Better than I thought they would be tbh. I don't see any mushiness which is the first thing that struck me. There's a bit of overprocessing as pointed out but it's nothing a tweak can't fix. The colour rendering is also excellent.

I agree but these will depend on whether any particular picture modes were selected.
