[SYD] Sculptures By The Sea 10 Nov 2011

Postby aim54x on Fri Nov 04, 2011 7:43 am

It's that time of year again. The annual outdoor exhibit opened yesterday and will run until the 20th of this month. Do I sense a mini meet followed by a Mexi meet?

As with every one of these so far. Yes I am interested.
However, as with every one of these so far, I probably won't make it. As always, it depends on time and last minute commitments.

I'm all for a mini-meet and a mexi-meet - perhaps Thursday next?

I might also be partial to a morning meet tomorrow (don't know what the timing will be just yet) and I can have the V1 for those who want a play. Don't know if I'll still have it by Thursday ...

I sense some more craziness with leds, domes and other lighting apparel. I don't think we could get away with some steel wool action though

what time and where are we planning to meet on Thursday? anything specific we should bring (strobe, lightstand, umbrella, etc)?

Bring whatever you like.

Aim for around 5:30 just south of the Icebergs.

At this stage I'll have the V1 and a PEN with me as well, so there'll be some playtime.

The 17th was never on the agenda for me.

If you review the thread, that was added into the subject header at a later time than my initial suggestion of the 10th.

As it happens, I've only just noticed that aspect (thanks to you pointing it out) so I've adjusted that as well.

It seems that Cameron has put the 17th in as the date, but that was never my intention, and it's certainly not workable for me, as I already have three things happening on that date.

I made it! Yay. First time, but it won't be the last.
Thanks for organising it.

A good time was had by me. Food was great too. Though the servings were bigger than expected & I ordered too much.

I got to see maybe a quarter of the show. Hard to say exactly as I didn't get to it all, but I had reached a headland at dusk, and I could see more sculptures stretching away into the distance. I had no hope of getting to these. I may return this year by pub trans so I do not have to worry about the horrendous parking charges or the bikie gangs that apparently roam the area. The spot where I parked my car had been overrun by bikies & I had to wait for them to clear out before I could go home.

Not me. While I had a play with it, I didn't have a card to use, so I didn't take any pictures.
I was impressed by its feel though. And the auto sensing on the viewfinder worked well, as did the viewfinder itself, though it did have a tendency to streak when moved quickly. May make it difficult if you are panning.
I do know Gary took some super slow motion shots of one of the kinetic sculptures though. Perhaps he will be good enough to post them in the new Video section of the forum ( )
