Iguazu Falls Argentina

Now I've finished sorting the 13,000 + images from my South America & Antarctica trip (12 months ago tomorrow!) I have a few images to share. These ones are from Iguazu falls which are MASSIVE. Challenge is to convey the size. I have really struggled with the white balance on these as well so I'd appreciate some feedback on both issues.

Number 2 for me.......I feel like i'm about to go off and into the abyss.

Very powerful scenes. Again, like them all for their own merits, but #2 draws me in (and down ) with the shrub framing on each side the foreground and topped off with a a decent sky. A little higher ratio of sky would perhaps make it spot on. But that's nitpicking. Well done.

The standout image of this set has to be #2, it has great symmetry and really makes you feel like you are right there. I am not a fan of the colours of #3, but maybe have a quick look at a possible sepia tone conversion, this will remove the colour and bring more focus back to the falls and the wonderful lines that they form, maybe do a selective edit to bring bring back the exposure in the sky a notch to get a bit more contrast to bring out those clouds.

When I was in South America, I missed this location. Unfortunately.

I have heard others describe the Iguazu Falls, and just last week I saw a Nat Geo feature on Foxtel about them, featuring the swifts that fly through the water to nest behind the falls. Amazing!

You have captured the scope of the falls and the power of the water in these images.

Like others, I think #2 is a standout image.

Thank you all for the feedback. One really crappy thing is it seems #2 is the pick. Crappy because it was one I "discovered" AFTER sending my book from the trip for printing. It was originally in the "I can't get this to work as a pano" category. Below is the image immediately after stitching. As you can see the near 180 degree stitch is increditbly distorted.



The best image I had from that spot was the one below and it was just not wide enough to give the scale so I didn't use that one either. It was only just before I made this post I decided to have a go at manual correction using the CS5 warp and puppet warp tools. And yes I am also very happy with the image. If only I did it before my book was finished....

Pretty much exactly what I had in mind! I almost thought it needed a bit more oomph, but the larger version nails it in that respect. I was thinking a warmer tone, but this subtle tone works really well!

I am going to disagree with the above. Number one
is visually more interesting, however, any of the first
three can be equally good. The last panoramic view
provides you with a sense of scale, but lacks the
photographic details (in this size) to come up to any
of the first three.
It must have been a wonderful trip (and very expensive)
considering the photographic evidence you are sharing with
us. I am so jelaous!

Nice stuff Stubbsy, WB issues aside, I find on the initial view, the water has too much of that 'edgy feel' from a tonal contrast PP style, its almost like it needs a bit of softening.

The WB is particularly noticeable on the first image, have you simply tried warming it up manually?

Wonderful colours with some favourable weather conditions.
Brings back very fond memories of my Sth America trip in '93 Peter, very nice indeed!

#'s 1 & 2 my fav, (WB warmth tweak needed in #1....no big deal)
Did you happen to take the chopper flight over the falls OR the boat trip up the Devil's Throat by chance?
TFS PS. Wondering if you've been to Vic Falls and if so, your thoughts on comparison?
