Well done Chris, I say.

Love the first, exposure, composition, and lighting are perfection.

The spoonbill is very well exposed and framed, but I would like to have seen more DOF to ensure the bill was in focus.

The finches, again more depth of field required to have both of the birds in focus.

Thanks. the spoonbill indeed needs more dof, i could have easily done it too cos there was bugger all in the background. Put it down to a silly mistake. With the finches, that was intentional to defocus the other bird. Reflecting on it, i think you may be right again and shouldve stopped down.

Love the composition and tones in the first one. Not sure that you needed the extra DOF in the third one however as I prefer having one bird being the primary and the other as a secondary subject.

Exposure on these are spot on and the colours are wonderful!

I think DOF has been covered so I wont reiterate. I have to find the time to get out to the zoo again

Know a good bird family lawyer? :D

As others have said, exposure and colours are great, DOF in the last two detract a little.

content-aware fill and proximity match with a small brush size will get you pretty close, that's in CS5. In NX2, the eraser brush will also do a pretty good job.

The first one is great.

On the last one, not sure you would have been able to stop down enough to really get the second one in focus. It would depend on how far they were from you. I like the separation you got between the two finches.

I reckon the OOF finch acts nicely as visual counter-weight to the sharp one, without confusing the eye as to what the main subject is. I do agree though that the duck bill needs more DOF, ideally from the feathers on the back of the head to the tip of the bill. It looks as though there wasn't much light to work with.

The standout is number 1 for me, too.

Cheers
Steffen.

Yep
As suggested, mainly used the clone tool. Tried the content aware fill but wasn't happy with the result

Thats an absolutely terrible lens, hence you better sell it to me for a silly cheap price...

great shots Chris, whilst I reckon you need to learn the art of cloning I think leaving the rings on is actually a important part of the image, i imagine the hardcore birders may get a bit narky about that kind of thing. For me the rings do not really detract, merely confirm they are birds in capivity, non issue.
