Could someone please show me an excellent image that has a large empty foreground.

Matt, don't you read Playboy? Just look for a straight on head and bust shot, and you will see a large empty foreground of silicone.
Quite a challenge Matt, I will search for one but like Gary said quite a few Ansell Adams or the wild west look had empty foregrounds to reinforce the desolation. Your point is well taken though, empty foregrounds often don't do much
Ansell Adams is an over rated photographer. His images are technically excellent, but they express very little. Anybody can go back to most of those locations and shoot the same thing. So flame me!

I doubt it will happen. We're all entitled to our opinions, and I respect your right to your's. I happen to love some of his images, and I admire and respect his technique. Having said that, I haven't a clue about how to use the zone system.  g.

 Considering the amount of traffic generated by the 'rules of photography' and 'composition' Gary might consider it worthy of a permanent subheading. It certainly catches my interest and is central to the 'art' of photography. Of course, we all  know it is one of those zen things ....  but it is what makes some photos work and others fail. We may never get the answer but the journey of discussion is the thing of interest, iteratively speaking of course. Just remember ...In the end .........In the end we know Nothing, but in the meantime Learn like crazy.
