Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II USM Plus plus plus

Postby gstark on Tue Feb 07, 2012 4:06 pm

It's all happening today, folks.

Canon just sent me a presser; here's the first two paras. This was embargoed till 4, although they didn't actually send it till 4. making the embargo moot.

Canon Australia wrote:Canon Australia has announced today a highly anticipated addition to its renowned L-series of interchangeable EF lenses for professionals and advanced amateur photographers: the EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM. Building on the strengths of its predecessor, the new lens features optical enhancements to deliver super-high image quality throughout the zoom range and edge-to-edge sharpness; as well as durability and functional advances to meet the specific demands of today’s professional digital SLR photographers.

“This bright standard zoom lens builds on the strengths of its popular predecessor, which has become the standard lens of choice for Canon professionals and enthusiasts alike,” says Cathy Hattersley, Brand Manager – EOS Professional, Canon Australia. “Designed in response to feedback from working professionals, the new EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM offers super-high image quality through a new optical design and optimised lens coatings. Outstanding image quality is matched with enhancements to its construction and usability for uncompromised performance under the demanding shooting conditions experienced by the pros.”

It seems, no.

Canon Presser #4 wrote:Canon takes sharpness to unprecedented levels with new wide-angle lenses

Delivering superior sharpness in a smooth and easy-to-use form factor, Canon’s new EF24mm f/2.8 IS USM and EF28mm f/2.8 IS USM lenses, launched today, are the world’s first wide-angle, single focus lenses featuring an image stabilization mechanism, making them an ideal choice for photographers shooting scenes in marginal light.

Gary, it's bad enough when someone starts talking (typing) to themselves, but when they start answering themselves back again.... :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

I'd like to grow some on the top of my bonce, but as someone once said (was it Spike Milligan?), God gave us either brains or hair.

As for the 24-70 without IS, oh well, a zillion wedding photographers have made a squillion dollars with the old non IS lens, so my guess is that it will work just as well.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here - if it's what I think you mean then - this new Canon 24-70/2.8 apparently does NOT have IS

Hopefully Canon have sorted out some of the horrible CA issues with the 24-70, although the new LR4 beta seems to do a pretty good job.

No a 16 or 17-70/2.8 (well Nikon or third party should) - then I could so use it on DX :)
