Congrats on the lens Matt, but all of the pics appear to be very soft

I know they do Chris - I had the aperture at 1.4 all day because i was entranced by the depth of field. I think that's probably what has done that.
Today, I shall be taking it smaller

Matt - you can shoot at 1.4 but the focussing becomes much more critical and IMO it is best to try and focus on the eyes

Yep when I was doing photos in France I was always using 1.4->1.8 and found it fairly soft. I think it starts to get crisp around the low 2s.

Hehe, yep me to Rokkstar. I got the 1.8, threw her at 1.8 and gasped at the beautiful bokeh I was now capable of. Such a wonderful addition. The portraits are a little soft but that isn't a bad thing necessarily.

stubbsy,
I can see that you're starting to look into the fast prime.
The 50/1.4 or 1.8 will do great shooting in the caves!

Birddog I know - that's why I didn't bring much cash Saturday so you couldn't seduce me. I feel safe now since there's not enough time between now & the caves to get one

I want one.... and I want it now....
You warned me but I didn't listen. Is there any known cure for lens lust?
Mal I've got a camera, it's black. I've got some lens, they are black as well.

While the price is good and so is the lens I think one would be more than enough.
