Something very odd there.

Beyond the obvious.

If you listen to the soundtrack, it sounds like a fast and noisy camera.

The D800 does not have a high fps rate, and my recollection (from my hands-on) is that it's much quieter than what's depcited in that clip.

And while it's somewhat difficult to properly judge, there are elements of the soundtrack that are different. The very fast SLR capture sounds that are in the "fake" clip are not obvious or evident in the "live" one.

Further, the claim is that the person is a "bit surprised to see Nikon using some of my video clips ... "

But he presents the whole of the clip, without identifying (in the first article at least) which of the clips he claims to be his.

Are we to believe that the whole of the clip is fake? If not, then why does he fail to identify which parts of the video might be his?

I think I need something a little more convincing than this.

No - He doesn't - the first link explains that it's at approx 7 seconds in (on that video - not the bangkok one). Some other people claim to have identified other frames shot two years ago on a D70.

So, in the first instance, that's about a one second grab of a traffic island or hairpin bend that nobody else might have shot? Sure, it's possible, but is it likely? (Clue: I've shot similar images to this in the past, which leads me to suggest this guy is not Robinson Crusoe here)

As to the frames shot on a D70: who can enumerate all of the video capabilities that the D70 featured?

Yep, that's right: a big fat zero.

We're talking a promotional video for a camera with HD video capabilities. I don't have a great deal of respect for marketing people, but even with my total lack of respect for them, I find it very difficult to accept that Nikon would throw in some images from a very obsolete camera that had zero video recording capabilities in order to promote their shiniest new button.

The D70 claim is really ludicrous and beyond laughable. The D70 was beyond obsolete two years ago, btw.

I just don't buy this. It makes no sense; it defies logic.

With all due respect David, I'm putting this one down to being one of those "I saw it on the internet so it must be true" instances.

In addition to the first, have a look at the video on TSO's site called "mountain" - http://tsophotography.tumblr.com/
There are two sections in the first Nikon video - at 19s and 1:07s that are clearly from "mountain" - which was posted last year and shot with a 5D11. In the Bangkok presentation you can see them at 2:13s and 3:02s.

Also - at 2:53s in the Bangkok presentation is a picture of two donkeys from this site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/benheine/4 ... 3723956821 which were taken 22 months ago with a D70s

So unless both videos and the whole Nikon Bangkok presentation were faked, I'm not sure how far you can stretch your disbelief

It happens...and there will always be stupid people. I read the comments from the facebook link and couldn't help but laugh at the idiots that wanted to see a legal stoush, claimed that they wouldn't buy a Nikon etc....surely whatever happened behind closed doors has settled the issue to the extent that the "copyright" owner is satisfied.
