A real Man's Helicopter - Augusta/Westland AW139

not cheap, but the bees knees when it comes to the latest and greatest in chopper material.

I was hoping for a sunset session with this aircraft, however beers intervened and its was this or nothing. I do wish it was straight on the heli pad though.

lol, i am not sure i could get past the OHS department.. but how fing cool would that be..lightpaint the rootercraft as the blades are turning! you would get the distance marker discs from teh rotating blades..

it a person in or nearby the copter? A sign
perhaps indicating the machine is in standby
awaiting for an assignment?

cheers Zafra, the second one speaks to me regarding this, its a view from behind at night overlooking the aerodrome, awaiting the call. Very rarely do you see expensive bits of machinery sitting out in teh elements unless they are needing to be ready to roll at a moments notice. One concept i did play with was having a crewie or pilot in teh frame, however given teh long exposures i did not really give it much furtehr consideration. Maybe next time.

I think Zafra and yourself are on the right track about including a pilot etc like an environmental portrait to enhance these; Although I think the light is nice and even considering the huge structure. Spinning those rotors would be cool but I know how hard it is even on a toy helicopter.

Other suggestion is about the color scheme. I don't like those dirty oranges and would prefer cooler tones in the background.

That winch looks out of place but I am a helicopter noob.

I've seen these choopers in action, too many times, watched them deliver doctors, take away casualties and save lives... it's a great sound to hear the blades cutting the air if your on the ground trying to keep someone alive.

BG lighting is always a issue, i don't mind the warm tones of those lights but I have not really played with the much, cooler might well work better.

FYI, the winch is typical for all rescue machines..

yeah, these ones are a class unto themselves, teh huge cabin, the med outfit, the avionics suite, NVG capability etc.... once they sort teh tail rooter issues out they should be sweet.

Gives me an idea for a heli flight shot with strobism....

I wonder whether they'd care if you fired up a smoke machine near those um....birds... I have an idea for a backlight....

yeah, you have given me ideas on the back lighting - however its not as easy as it seems, careful attention to camera position and shadows is key. Much like a hairlight on a model.
