Reworked midday treeSo the previous attempt didn't make me happy so I worked on it some more.
Before After I wanted to accentuate the texture of the clouds in the background which would increase the highlight on the tree. Thoughts? Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Reworked midday treeI like the second version better, the first was a little flat. Not convinced on the image as a whole though.

Re: Reworked midday treeI prefer the first as a photograph and the second as a fantastical image, less related to reality, if you know what I mean.
Whilst not possible, a bigger tree would have more impact. Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Reworked midday treeI much prefer the first image....a classic B&W shot...but it could do with just a touch of brightening. I like the dark and moody look. Second image has been way overdone in my opinion. By the way....it is an excellent photograph in the style of Ansel Adams. I love it!

Re: Reworked midday treefirst one all teh way home... the sky and clouds are very nice, the boosted contrast in the second has just overcooked it. I am with Matt, just a little brightening and a small touch of contrast.

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Reworked midday treeI would also prefer somewhere inbetween #1 and #2.
Re: Reworked midday tree
Thanks Matt. That's what drew me to the spending the time to photograph the tree.
Good thing I only shoot for my own pleasure then Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: Reworked midday tree
Doubt it. I am no art buyer/artist (appreciater) although I don't know about Rooz. Despite this I gave two cents worth. Go figure.
Re: Reworked midday treeI'm also in the preferring #1 camp for this image with perhaps a little more lightening behind the top of the tree. But I can see where you were going with the second (I find myself heading the same way with a number of my monochromes these days).

Re: Reworked midday treeOk taken most of the constructive feedback on board and given it another whirl.
Here's a 100% crop of what I see on my screen. The smaller version really doesn't do it enough justice. Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Re: Reworked midday treeThat is significantly better and a great balance between the two. AA would be proud. (But change the tree )

Re: Reworked midday treeYou are in the zone with #3.
Re: Reworked midday treeI believe the 3rd one is an improvement
on 1, and 2. It's has more light than 1 and is less sharp than 2 and this makes it looks more natural.
