EOI: Star Trails in the City - Sat 19/5...

Postby Remorhaz on Mon Apr 30, 2012 12:12 pm

It's early days yet but I was thinking of trying a star trails session here in Sydney with the city as the backdrop (yes light pollution and all :))

Current target date is Sat 19th May

Moonset is 3:45PM (two days before new moon anyway)
Sunset is 5PM

I was thinking of Balls Head Reserve - it's close, on the harbour and relatively dark itself. It has good high views of the city skyline and I reckon the centre of the pole should be somewhere around Pyrmont/Anzac Bridge

I'm thinking we setup compositions from around 4:30, take sunset/twilight images from 5 to 5:30 and then start the trails exposures from around 5:45-6PM - 3 or 4 hours worth takes us to 10PM

I am keen for this, I have been sussing out locations, Barrenjoey was a option but there has been a recent glut in star trail stuff from there, south head would be cool but a bit tricker in terms of composition, there is also a little light house down in Kurnell which could be quite good and you can get a good southern view on it.

I am tentatively free on the 19th but its a long way away :rotfl2:

No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.

Bump - reminder if the weather turns out OK/clear (there's forecast that there may be clouds and rain - looks fine now tho) I'll be heading down to Balls Head Reserve around 4-4:30PM
