FYI: I notice that the forum is now for me cropping the right side of images (in my case they are sized 775 pixels wide)

Now that you mention it. Ditto.
In my case sized 750px so I don't think it is the 800 limit.

Interestingly, I just had a play in the forum's css sandpit, to try to expand the basic forum view to 1000px.

Put in the style settings.

Purged the cache.

Drumroll ....

No changes.

Dammit!

I now get a green border around everything. Does that mean we can put in some nice background during post?

Now it is red. Have I done something wrong?

No.

I'm messing with some style options to try to get a wider page layout.

None of which are working.

Stark: 1
Forum: 0

I've managed to set the width of the forum to 1200px, and for the posting of images, we can now use a width of 950px. I think.

IAC, please start using 950px as the image size, and I should now be able to fine tune the forum's width to suit.

I'm getting the wider screen but only on the portal, I now have a scroll bar at the bottom. Board index is still the same..

Edit: Ok, I'm getting the wider screen on every page now.

It's a pity the width has to be fixed. It would be better if it resized to fit the window - at least when there aren't wide images that need the width.

Done.

Seems to be resizing nicely on the MBP.

Auto resizing nicely for me now too - very nice. I had to force a reload (multiple times) in my browser to get it to pick up the new CSS but once done it applies to all forum pages and is good.

No more scroll bar, I'm getting full width with widgets on the portal page, narrower on the board index page but no widgets.
Edit: just to clarify, pressing the board index tab gives me full width but clicking on any section within the board index takes me to a narrower page. Not a problem though, great as is.

Oh DEAR!

I deleted all cookies on my other computer in order to get the new & bliss inducing screen resize.

Now it won't let me log in.

Click on any login required option (e.g. Post Reply) & it takes me to the log in screen. I log in, and sit logged in to the intermediate screen. When I return to the original screen I am logged out again.

FF 12.0
OSX 10.7.3

As yet, I haven't tried any other browsers. Nor have I tried rebooting yet. ( Later !)

I posted two frames, one under the other, over on the weekly thread
I posted one at 800 wide and one at 1024 wide (Flickr resizing) Both appear the same size here.

Not any more. :)

Just changed the incorrectly labelled news page maximum image size parameter.

FTR, use 950px as the maximum size now, in lieu of the previously applicable 800px. The parameter in question only permits 3 digits entry, so 999px is the maximum value enterable, and I'd suggest that means that 950px becomes the maximum practical size.

Thanks. Have set LR4 publish to limit size to 950x950.

Still unable to log in from FF12 on OSX Lion though. Have tried rebooting & clearing Cookies (Again)

I am using Safari on Lion ATM. That will log on, but has its own issues

The screen decided to play silly buggers with the zoom. Zoomed OUT as far as I can go I get the following: Note the cropped sides. Tried zooming in and out. No joy.
When I clicked "Post Reply though the screen resized properly though.

Greg,

That is most odd.

It's almost sounding like a Lion issue though - with Lion underpinning everything that you're doing on that box.

I don't (yet) have a Lion environment I can play with, so I'm unable to help too much. Chris, are you using Lion?

What I am hearing you say though is a number of things ...

Log-in issues in FF12 ...

... using the .com website?

... do the resizing issues persist? Or is the viewing ok within FF12?

... does your Lion logged in user have full permissions?

Rendering issues in Safari ...

... I'll be damned! It looks like it's not reading the CSS correctly.

Could this be a transparent cache issue at the upstream ISP?

sadly no.

Still happening. I haven't seen Safari misbehave again though.

Have tried logging on from all the login options I can find. I have tried clearing cookies again, and the "Reset Blocks" beside it

I have certainly logged on more than a dozen times.

I may try registering as a new user & see what happens. But I will await your OK before I try that.

Safari is fine, as is FF12 on 10.6.8. I haven't tried clearing the cookies on that machine though. And am reluctant to do so.

To post pictures, I have the bizarre situation of going to Flickr on FF, then cutting and pasting the BB code to Safari to get the link into DSLRUsers. THis is because I cannot remember the UserId/password on FLickr, so I can't access it from Safari.

Please do. At least as a diagnostic measure.

Go to Preferences, Security (I think) and there's a show passwords option. That should let you see your stored credentials.

OK.
Weirder and weirder.

It still won't let me log in. Leastways, it does until I leave the "you have successfully logged in" screen. Doesn't matter if I wait for the time out, or click a link to go somewhere. I end up logged out.

UNLESS
I come in from an email link (topic reply notification), I go straight to the login in screen, but when I log in there I remain logged in until I restart FF. THen it is back to the previous behaviour until I use an email link to log in again.

And yes, I am going to .com. I haven't tried .net. Maybe I should.

Resizing is OK. It is handled better in FF than in Safari. Font sizes remain a little weird in Safari.

As a Lion user I don't seem to have any restrictions. If I can get logged in that is.

iPad. I'd have to buy one first.
mobile Router: ditto
iPhone sharing. I don't have a 3G plan. It would get very expensive very quickly. Thinks. Pam does. I set her up with one. I'll see if I can work out how to do internet sharing.

gstark wrote:Go to Preferences, Security (I think) and there's a show passwords option. That should let you see your stored credentials

Yes I know, but I have no wish to move to Safari permanently. It is more trouble than it is worth to move. Unless this can't be resolved that is.

The email links don't have www could that be it? What happens if you go to dslrusers.com rather then www.dslrusers.com (or vice versa)?

Andrew,
You seem to be on to something.
I can log in to dslrusers.com and if I shutdown FF then come back in, it remembers me.

I can also log in successfully to dslrusers.net. I haven't checked whether the login is sticky or not there though.

I have changed the home page to dslrusers.com (it was www.dslrusers.com) HOpefully that will be a successful workaround, though it would be real nice to work out what is going on and resolve the issue.

I'm pretty sure I know what is going on. The problem is not clearing cookies but blocking cookies. I bet you are blocking cookies from www.dslrusers.com but not dslrusers.com. Cookies are required to remember your login.

Go to Firefox->Preferences->Privacy. Do you have "Use custom settings for history"? Do you have "Accept cookies from sites"? Check "Exceptions..." what sites are listed?

Sounds like a nice theory. I will check it in the morning. I have shut down that computer for the night (and am about to shut down this one)

However, what it doesn't explain is why it has been working happily until this afternoon. I have not changed any settings on FF. Yes I deleted all the cookies, but the original cookies I deleted got there somehow. Will know more tomorrow.

I have now checked your suggestion Andrew.
I am set to accept all cookies. No exceptions. So that is not it.
I am thinking Gary has the right of it and its something upstream of me.

The work around seems to happily let me log in though.

Another "feature". Two actually:
When I open dslrusers.com (not www as I want to actually use it) I go to recent topics as I want to look at them.
I see only topics since midnight not the last two days as I told it to show me. It opens in glorious panavision though.
When I click on "last 14 days" as I reaqlly want to see a topic from yesterday, it reverts to the 800 wide old school version. And I still only see today's posts.

EDIT:
I just tried www again and was immediately logged out, and could not successfully log in.
Switched over to dslrusers and I remained logged out so the www version affected its status too, but logged back in successfully.

EDIT2: I just had a look at suren's butterfly and it is cropped through the middle of the butterfly, so that issue is back. For me at least. I think it is coupled to the old school table size I am seeing. I know it is the site & not the photo as I checked the original on flickr

I'm finding different behaviour according to how I enter the site.
If I click on a link in a notification email, the thread comes up a touch wider than an 800x600 underlying frame and cropped to that size.
If I then go to Portal and Recent Posts, it opens in the same way but the last few millimetres (with the Top icon) are now visible
If I type in http://www.dslrusers.com or open from the Firefox last links dropdown, it opens to the new wide format
If I then go to Portal and Recent Posts, the white right margin is cropped (though of no real consequence)
If I drink lots of alcohol and lie down on the grass outside, I can't see the thread or type at all.

You need to login in order to reply to topics within this forum.

I am getting awfully tired of seeing this and similar messages.

Have now tried a new user. (GregDarcy). Feel free to remove it. It works about as well as this one. Actually less well as I can't post a reply to this thread even when I use dslrusers.com. Though that's probably because I am a noob on that account and not related to my greater woes.

I have to say I'm not surprised you are not getting any spam users. It took me about 50 goes before I cracked the secret code question. It is REALLY tough.

Then a few minutes ago, I got an update notice for this thread even though nothing had changed and that also led to the perpetual logon screen syndrome. This is why I am unable to make this post.

No, commute that sentence, I was able to get in through an older thread notification.

For me everything appears to be working (including login and page resizing), but I don't like the rotating matte colour. I'd prefer it to be the same grey all the time.

Cheers

OK, I need to look at this on my iPad and iPhone and see what's happening there.

Interesting thought though ... iPad, iPhone ... Mac .... they're all using Safari, although I note that There are also issues on Lion with FF.

Murray: OSX or Windows, and which version please?

Not that I really know what more I can do ...

Ok.

I'll try that later this evening; we're prerecording Sunday's show tonight, and under exactly that environment.

Which version of FF, btw?

On the iphone and ipad, right hand side is significantly cut off with no scrolling. On the phone, everything is enlarged emphasising the cropping on the right. On the desktop, all is cool (Safari & IE).
