Forum members dinner

Proposing a forum meet and dinner at Cabramatta on Friday 1 May, Next week), about 7PM. The restaurant is at 42 John St which is the main street, and the food is sensational. Cost around $25per head for top shelf. The name of the place is the BAU TRONG...or something very similar. If there is sufficient interest then this will be a goer. Register your interest on this post. All who post on the forum are welcome. Need to get numbers early so that I can book. (Booking not essential but a good idea). Be there or be be square.

Friday, June 8 would be the correct date: Friday, next week - Friday leading into the long weekend.

Are you sure? I would have thought that Friday, June 1 would be a more likely contender.
I have learnt after much pain that when some people say "next Friday" they mean the next one coming. Other people use "This Friday" for the next one coming and "next Friday" for the one after that

In this case he has used "next week" which tends to be less ambiguous but has its own problems when used on a Sunday. I know people who start the week in a Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

This is one time when wearing the green cardigan is aposite.

Greg - I have had so many arguments with people (here in Australia) with regards to “next” when applied to defining a coming day.

The simple answer (as per the dictionary) next applies to the very next same defined day, i.e. today being Monday means that next Monday is Monday of next week.

Absolutely.

And when I was young I had serious issues with expressions like "tea-time", and especially when my school buddies (I did say "when I was young") were referring to dinner time. To my ears (and coming from a European background) the word "tea" referred to a drink, not a meal.

In the old dart this was what the different eating times were named:

1 Breakfast (around 7am to 9am)

2 Lunch (around 12 to 2pm)

3 High Tea (around 4pm)

4 Dinner (around 6pm through 7.30pm)

5 Supper (around 10pm)

Luckily for the English they did not follow the French dinner regime:

Dinner starts at 11pm and goes on to 4am with a normal 20 - 30 courses. No wonder the French hate cleaning their teeth

I really don't know how the English managed to colonise half the world. I'd have thought they were too busy eating. BTW I never did really understand that song. Dinner at supper time is perfectly normal.

French Regime? that looks more like the Spanish one.

The French seem to start about 10:00 with croissant and coffee, and don't really stop until they fall over in a drunken stupor.

For those who missed out on the superb fare....venison, crab, lobster and a partidge in a pear tree on the 1st of May...TOUGH! However, it was so wonderful we should do it again on the 8th of June, all invited.
And to the swine who slipped the script that randomises the numbers on my numerical keyboard....DIE!

I am swinging things around left rigth and centre to get there, I should be able to get there, if it makes ya's feel any better I leave sunny Bankstown which is 15min drive to cabba to basically go to teh city then back out again then back to Newtown...now thats taking one for teh team (if I get there )

I wasn't comparing to anyone else (especially Ozi), but was surprised that it was quite a distance which I didn't expect.

Anyways, the distance is not the reason I am tentative.
