North Head Sunrise...Headed over to Sydney's North Head hoping for a spectacular sunrise on the weekend - unfortunately even though the previous two days had seen some of the most spectacular sunrises to be seen we were blessed on Saturday with the most serene and well photographically speaking somewhat boring of sunrises - not a cloud in the sky.
We'd setup in the dark to photograph on the ocean cliff side of North Head facing north along the coastline however things weren't looking all that promising for sunrise. Here's a pre-dawn long exposure - the best of the shots... We abandoned the sunrise seascape idea and headed around to the southern end of the head (with views of the harbour and city) because the colour in the sky looking that way was far more interesting I switched to the Sigma 50-500 (BigMOS) for some more detailed landscapes... including this ocean liner which steamed in on queue allowing me to try the lens at the widest 50mm setting (generally considered to be the softest end of this lens) - although some of it can possibly be attributed to the 1/30th of a second shutter and the moving ship and a longer view (240mm) as the sun come up over the horizon and struck the distant buildings and land So that our very early morning wasn't a total loss we headed into the bushland with macro in mind (in a follow up post), then called it a day and headed into Manly for breakfast (which I'd rate about a 6 out of 10) D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: North Head Sunrise...
you forgot to mention that this included the pre-dawn jog - one must understand we have dslrusers.com health and fitness at the fore front of our minds! I like this shot - its very hard to convey the colours, the biggest problem is often the true representation on the screen looks at bit saturated and gaudy however it does often represent what was there.. I think your one comes close but i reckon there was more pink than the dirty orange (as it appears on my monitor)
good framing on that one, a fraction wider and it would be sold for me, thsi would accentuate that nice 'S' curve thru teh image.
gee your generous - when they forget parts of a order, i mean mine I can understand cause i mumble at teh best of time, but yours..no excuse. The coffee saved them from a dead beat score, 4 outta 10 breakfast bananas. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: North Head Sunrise...I love the colours, but overall I prefer the second last of this
series. It has that ship (with asylum seekers) coming in with planty of detail and the receiving city in the distance.
Re: North Head Sunrise...
Yes a jog in the dark is always fun
Yep - this was my daughters favourite too How about this (with a little Hue jiggery)?:
Only this slightly wider and earlier 210mm version
Thanks Zafra D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: North Head Sunrise...I missed this one earlier.
For me #4 is the winner. It conveys a sense of brand new day... new arrival
Man the battle stations. Load those guns on Bradleys Head. STOP THE BOATS!!!
So where are Gary's photos? Greg
It's easy to be good... when there is nothing else to do
