just for kicks and giggles i dabbled in a bit of defocus stuff, maybe just dreaming of a tilt shit lens.

Its quite neat how easily the brain is tricked.

I like the first best. I guess you used software to
create the effect. The new CS6 has this effect
as new filter, which I found interesting as many
point-and-shoot cameras has this effect in their
repertoire.

Having said that, your images are ver nice nice.

I quite like this effect in the right circumstance and I think that this type of scene offers the greatest impact when it is applied. I think that landscape versions of the cityscapes would work better than the portrait orientations you have presented here. I too prefer the first.

An illusion...the scene looks like it was a constructed studio model. A couple of toy cars in the foreground would have sealed the deal.

yeah its not even as complicated as a filter and my cam also has that tilt shift feature built in...

in this case i simply selected the areas to be out of focus (gaussian blur).

yeah landscape does work better, i guess in this case my laziness in just using the image as shot overcame any real thought process on making it better. I will certainly have a look at see if i have any suitable landscape ones..

thru da glass at the 'eye of the tower' (formerly know as centrepoint) it was too cold outside...

polariser also used fyi.

Ah yes. as I suspected the landscape orientated versions work much better. I am staying in Bris Vegas next weekend and plan to take some images where I could apply this effect. I am going to travel light (in respect of gear) as I am going with the family, likely to take just the D700 with the 50mm.

This is one instance I'd suggest that you push that vibrance to electric. I think the toy-miniature effect is accentuated when there is more vibrant colour.

yeah, also the glass on the tower really sucks the contrast and saturation outta ya images...anyway thats my excuse

Surprisingly much lighter than my previous 'travel light' combo of the D90/17-55/MB-D80, over 1/2 a kilo lighter.

Story bridge should be a good option, staying on Southbank so should be lots of differing photographic opportunities. Looking forward to it - just one more sleep!
