Lane Cove Fungi Round Two...

Gerry and I headed back to Lane Cove Bushland Park for another round of fungi fun. We started at the top end of the park this time and whilst I don't think the fungi were quite as good as our last visit we still spent a happy few hours wandering along the creek.

Decided to try something a little different on this outing - all my exposures were on a tripod and were longish exposures (no flash was harmed ). I still used my LED macro ring light for ambient fill lighting (and to greatly assist framing and manual focusing in the extremely dark conditions) as well as an LED torch for controlled accent lighting (sometimes through a diffuser - although I think in all these final images I selected none were with the diffuser).



These little things were tiny - like faint hairs sticking out of the moss



A nice cluster of shrooms



Suggestions - compositionally, technique, processing or otherwise gratefully accepted...

That first one was a good find, that top down lighting works very well to transform it from a ordinary shot to a really nice one, even with the dirty background it still looks appealing.

The second one is also nice, the choice of subjects was good, there is a full bodied one and the opened up one, both in teh same plane which makes this nice and sharp, although the resize for the web almost looks too sharp, looking at the stem.

that last one, the compo is good but the lighting is terrible, the colour cast does not appear to match what I remember... i remember the undersides/gills being much more white.

i might clarify that to stumbling, there was not much that was graceful from my part anyway.

Yes - I had to work for a bit to end up at this - moving the tripod and camera slightly each time to try and get close to exactly side on to both stems and still have a decent background - and I was able to drop to f/11 (instead of f/rediculous) so I could blur those background stems more (they were a bit uglier otherwise)

I think #2 is the best shot for the dof the transition of colours in the background and the sharpness of the subject. The lighting helps to isolate the subject as well.

I don't know... - I know the lighting is a lot flatter (and warmed to buggery) in the first version and the second has shadows to burn but I still in my heart prefer the first myself...
