Announcing the birth of ...my 24-120 VR.
Back-ordered at Maxwells (through Birddog), I'm an impatient bastard, so I called Vanbar, and paid 'em a visit on the way home and relieved that poor lonely, orphan lens ... It's now sitting happily on the D70, and hopefully soon there'll be a whole pixellation of new images to admire. g.

Thanx y'all.
Glen, Although it's not as wide as the kit lens - and that does bother me somewhatt - yes, it'll become my walkabout. I'm eventually going to build up my kit with the 80-400VR (that's next) and then the 12-24. Maybe that'll be next. As long as I have the 80-400 for the GP .... g.

I think you will really enjoy that lens Gary. I liked Birddog's. You will have to let us know if you miss the extra width (I have surprised myself how often I have used it). I really think that is the ideal lens for the D70 (well maybe 12 - 120 VR would be ideal)
The 24-120VR is my best walkabout lens in my bag, I have it more than a year and like it very much even under low light and VR on, it'll do the job.

looking forward to see them. Bring em on!!!!!!!! Cheers Ray >> All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism<<
A collection of pixels
I like this lens. Zoom movement is very tight, focus is slower than the kit lens, but the images are pin sharp. g.

Nice..Congrats Gary - love it! How happy am I to be a part of this forum? I think if there 'internet aria awards' or something - this would definately win 'best new talent'. . Hope to see more photos from your new lens gary!
Geoff.
Glen, Are U going to lust one of them soon? tempting isn't it? Birddog114

I lust one now Birddog and the price is reasonable. Love the VR facility. Small feeling in me if I bought one I should sell the kit lens (my only AFS lens) but then I would only have my 20mm 2.8 for wide. I think my next lens will be the Tamron 11- 18 if it is ok when we see it.
I met my contact at Maxwell today, they don't think they will have the lens by next Saturday for us to evaluate, perhaps next meet. Birddog114

Look more carefully, Glen. There's also the on-cam flash, dialled back about 1 stop. No PP at all though; just resized for the web. But yes, it's very nice. I'll drop a few more up here in a few minutes. g.

Glen,
The only PP thus far has been a contrast adjustment in NE on the one with the statues above the entrance to QVB. The rest were as they came, with resizing only. The sharpness, especially on that statues shot, is simply wunnerful! I may post a refernce to a full size image of that, so that you can see the level of detail I'm getting. This lens looks to be better than the glass on my 5700, and that is saying something! The shot of the conga player, in the first set, is also amazingly crisp. Please let me know if you want access to a couple of the full size images. g.
