Tulips again - drum scanned

Here are the three tulip photos referred to in previous threads, scanned via a Flextight drum scanner. I will do some more post to them, but interested in C&C.

I Like all 3 of these....I love classical still life imagery. One thing that doesn't quite work for me with the first 2 is their position within the image space. They just don't sit right and cause a slight visual discomfort to my eye. Maybe it's the balance. I think I'd try and use a square format and maybe play with moving the imge within that. Perhaps overlay with a grid and play with the rule of thirds. I think for these to really sing then the placement is critical. The tones are lovely but perhaps adding some grain or noise might give an extra element and also take them to a slightly higher level.
I love your work and I can see that you are persistent and working towards creating fine art.....I think you're just about there. I don't think the fact that they are drum scanned is a useful factor. These images don't rely on fine detail....in fact, they lack critical sharpness nor do they need it. These would have worked even if they had been scanned with a budget scanner.

I quite like the texture of the flower in the second, it comes across almost plastic and unreal, the low contrast has accentuated this. I think the option of cropping to portrait might be useful, i find the vignetting a bit distracting, hence the crop would minimise this for me.

Cameron - I think my favourite is the last as well, even though it represents "death".

Matt - I agree that the framing of the first lets the image down and, unfortunately, I can't retake the photo. I will double check what cropping I did with the second because I thought it was pretty much in the same composition as the third image, but I had i had flipped the third image horizontally such that the three images are differently composed. I will look at the square crop - the current is 4x5.

Gerry - again, I will look at cropping option.

I will place a textured laywer over these to try to give it more interest and see how that looks.

Hi Patrick

The first doesn't do it for me (although it almost looks like it's printed on fabric or something)

I don't mind the second but the crop isn't right for me - probably a square (although the vignette will then look funny I expect)

The third is my favourite and for this I don't mind the crop as it is (but if you wanted them all to match then square for all would be the way to go I reckon)

I'm not sure if I'd like them textured (I'm normally not a fan of any texturing but who knows I might get convinced )
