Re: Lytro light field camera has arrivedAlso Lytro announced last week that they were going retail and global
It has been nearly a year since Lytro announced the world’s first consumer light-field camera that lets users focus photographs after they’re shot. Throughout this time, the camera has only been available direct from the company when ordered through the website. That’ll soon change, as the company announced today that it will be partnering with major retailers around the world to have the camera appear on a store shelf (and website) near you. Starting this month, people in the United States will be able to pick up a Lytro camera online at Target, BestBuy, and — perhaps most importantly for Lytro — Amazon. Around the same time, it’ll also be appearing online and in stores in places such as Australia, Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong. http://blog.lytro.com/news/lytros-going ... e-u-s-too/ D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Lytro light field camera has arrivedIt's not the first, either. There's a Dutch company that has had something like this out for some years.
Re: Lytro light field camera has arrivedI suspect that the camera simply 'focus stacks' and as you click on the image a new version morphs into place. Hence the low resolution. The yarn about capturing the light field or whatever it is they claim....er maybe if you had multiple lenses scattered around the place, like a holograph. Something just does not sound convincing with what they are offering. However, if it does work then it may be useful for surveillence cameras and somesuch.
Not for me. Regards

Re: Lytro light field camera has arrivedPrinciples first proposed in 1904!
In 2004 Stanford University used a 16 megapixel camera with 90,000 microlens array. The Lytro was commercialised by one of the team from the Stanford University team that worked on the light field camera. Chris
