As a pre-cursor to the Jenolan Caves NSW maxi-meet; I thought I'd set the benchmark for you guys to beat. These were taken in the Folk Cultre Village in Shenzhen, all handheld at high ISO with kit lens (I had no tripod or low light lens).

NB: beware of pop-ups with Imageshack.

Interesting 'natural' lighting! hehe

looks like a cool place Onyx, although I'm not a huge fan of the colours they have introduced - a little too theatrical for my liking.

You've got some nice pics there though - thanks :)

Jenolan caves... nice!
i was there this time last year, cept only with my works panasonic lumix pns dcam. photos looked nice on the screen but on the PC were mostly all blurred. This was with the f2.0-2.4 leica lens on it.

The tour guide said you werent allowed tripods (unsure of monopods) i suggest ringing first...

so if your going, take your fastest lens or make sure you have some VR, cos you will be needing it! (using a flash is a bit no-no! )

oh and make sure you do the "caves of cerebus" i think its called, its the caves with water... you have to make sure you book early on the day or before hand to do these specialist caves with the underground lakes inside them, a brilliant opportunity for some very beautiful photography!

oh and another thing... being in a group with lots of parents and young kids is not a good idea... when the tour guide turns out all the lights.... we had kids freaking out all over the place of course their noise amplified by the tight surroundings!

Its also alot cooler inside, so you might want to take a jumper!

hope you have a great time!

JD

ive included a few images i took with my lumix at jenolan... of course i expect to see alot better images out of your D70's!

Hi jdear,

We are lucky to have one of the Caves Trust employees as a D70 member and he has very generously organised this tour of the caves for us...
We will not be subjected to the public and will be allowed to use tripods, monopods & flash... We will also have control of the lighting. The whole tour is due to take about 5-6 hours at our own pace...

We're all looking forward to it immensely... If you want to read more, there's a sticky thread in the Sydney section that'll tell you all about it...
Cheers, John

Onyx - the last shot with the blue in it is awesome. I have a question though, the floor appears to be tiled, am I right? :D

Jdear, no probs you didn't hijack - you kept it on topic. Your cave pics seemed a lot more natural than mine.

Sirhc - you know, I believe the entire cave was artificially made. ;)

Here's a shot I took in March 2003 (not with D70, I'm afraid!) in the famous Clamouse caves in south-wetern France.
I love those stalagmites and stalagtites - they make really interesting displays. These ones look like icing.
