Nikon Photo Contest... Shoot Film - Sorry not here...Another sign of the times - one of the most prestigious photo competitions in the world no longer accepts film photographs.
Nikon has published a “call for entries” for its 34th Nikon Photo Contest. Here’s what the entry guidelines say about “Eligible Works”: Image data files created with digital still cameras (including medium and large-format cameras). Images that have been retouched using software or by other means will be accepted. Both color and monochrome images will be accepted. (Scans of photographs taken by film cameras are not eligible.) http://www.nikon-photocontest.com/en/#/about D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Nikon Photo Contest... Shoot Film - Sorry not here...I wonder what the reasoning is given a scanned film image is then just as digital as a digital shot. And as retouching is allowed then it can't be that the image is "altered" during the scan
The only comment that touches on this is
Another oddity for me is this requirement:
An email client on a smartphone or a "tablet computer" (yes I'll say that 4 letter word - an iPad for example ) sends an image via email the same way a laptop or desktop does. Guess they want to ensure the migration process to said forbidden devices doesn't strip EXIF Peter

Re: Nikon Photo Contest... Shoot Film - Sorry not here...When I first glanced the thread heading, I thought it meant film only.
Can anyone actually guess at the logic that goes behind excluding scanned film images? Is it because they cannot verify when the actual photo was taken? Regards, Patrick
Two or three lights, any lens on a light-tight box are sufficient for the realisation of the most convincing image. Man Ray 1935. Our mug is smug
Re: Nikon Photo Contest... Shoot Film - Sorry not here...Is it because they don't manufacture any film cameras anymore and only want to promote 'digital' photography? Could they possibly be that mean spirited?

Actually - apparently the new guidelines this year rule out photos shot using the Nikon F6, a $3,000 professional film SLR that’s still in production (also the FM10) http://www.nikon.com.au/en_AU/products. ... Re: Nikon Photo Contest... Shoot Film - Sorry not here...
Nikon still "manufacture" the F6 and via Cosina the FM10...the F6 may not be in active production but they are available new, and the (non)Nikon FM10 is still being sold in decent quantities to schools and students. I am very sad that they have decided to allow medium/large format digital but exclude film completely, in the past they have excluded all medium/large format and welcomed film..... Maybe they want the EXIF so they cannot make silly mistakes in the review comments (I have won trade competitions from Sony 2x and both times their comments have been well of the mark when it comes to technique, both times the comments were from Sony ambassadors and trainers/Photoshop instructors etc). Regardless this is a blow to all of us that still use film. Cameron
