Chocolate blocks at North Avoca BeachAre we bored of seascapes yet? surely...
There was a glimmer of colour for a few minutes this morning, there are some amazing rocks up there.. Suggestions for improvements more than welcome. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Chocolate blocks at North Avoca BeachGerry
You are the sea scape master. It's time you invested some money and printed some of your best work, frame them and sell them as fine art. They will sell like hot cakes. Regards
Matt. K

Re: Chocolate blocks at North Avoca Beachmmm... well I guess if that's the best you can do !!!
saves me getting up early to admire the view... I just wait for Gerry's next installment and have a sleep in As per Matt's thoughts... pick a sample/selection and get it/them printed LARGE. Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?
Re: Chocolate blocks at North Avoca BeachHardcore Gerry - the evening before boded for a very grim looking morning. However I'm never bored of (looking at or taking) seascapes
I'll be harsher and say that it's only really the third image which really does it for me (I reckon the rocks on the left could do with a little more lightening), the others are OK but... In an uncharacteristic move your horizon in the third feels like it tilts to the right D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Chocolate blocks at North Avoca BeachThanks for the comments guys. To be honest, the only one I really like now is the first, it has some niggling aspects but overall a few days later I am still liking it.
1) I think it could be improved by lessening the way the rock in the middle 'appears' to be pasted into the frame, the lens flare at the very bottom is also bugging me..damn optics. Looks someone left a booga on that rock/water near the sun, must clone that out. 4 Stars. 2) I still like this one as well I guess, however its a bit ho-hum, same old same old, green shit, rocks, some sky and and a bit of LE water...nice but not wow. 3 stars. 3) The rock on the left looks obviously shadowed recovered, the selection is terrible, you can see the black mark on the headland still exists, this should be feathered out. The inconsistent lighting on the rocks gives it a bit of yucky HDR feel, even tho it is a single frame. The water flow did not do what I wanted it too, however this one was the best of the lots. The sky saves it, 3 stars. Oh yes horizon is crooked 4) Could not get the composition I wanted here, sun was in teh wrong place could get my nice 'S' curve that I had in minds, water flow was crap. Some haloing from shadow recovery still exists..tsk tsk...sky and rays save it. 2 stars. gerry's photography journey

Re: Chocolate blocks at North Avoca BeachI might also suggest that after producing quite a few of these long exposures the whole look starts to appear somewhat 'manufactured'. I'm not sure what the answer is but possibly a composite image where you present the water in a more natural state but the rest of the landscape with the depth, contrast and saturation (not to mention adequate light) that only the long exposure can deliver. The problem with any single technique is that after a while it all starts to become same-same.
