Mahon pool at sunriseI was able to go to Mahon pool on the Northern end of Marooubra beach on the last weekend.
Of all the shots I took, I liked these two the most. Although similar they each have a different feel. I have tried to make my adjustments more aggressive when compared to my last submitted photos. I deliberately left the left hand edge of the pool black to offer a ballance to the bright points of the sky. and tried to keep the focus on the sky and the reflection in the pool. With this one I tried to make the poles and their reflection the focus Happy to hear your thoughts and any advise on processing you care to offer Regards Martin A camera in the closet gathers no photos
Re: Mahon pool at sunriseMartin
I really like what you've done both with composition and treatment in #2 although there's a touch too much pink in the clouds. Peter

Re: Mahon pool at sunrise
G,Day Stubbsy, I see what you mean about the pink in the clouds. They were pink, but I may have pushed the processing just a bit to far. Regards Martin. A camera in the closet gathers no photos
Re: Mahon pool at sunriseMartin, nice attempts despite no sunrise and no high tide.
Mahon pool is best frequented at high tide + reasonable swell (big can be dangerous) to get the water moving above the edge for some misty shots. Were there any swimmers there?
Re: Mahon pool at sunriseOn second look, they look like they need a touch of sharpening. The #1 is weaker because the light is flat in the foreground.
Could you double check that your pictures are in sRGB format? [check EXIF] There is a dullness to the colors which sometimes happens with AdobeRGB when viewed on the web.
Re: Mahon pool at sunriseI agree with the comments above, the sky's can be toned down a little with some local adjustments. Nice compositions especially #2.

+1 - in fact the first looks just slightly oof for me (or maybe there was some slight movement of the camera during the shot) D600, D7000, Nikon/Sigma/Tamron Lenses, Nikon Flashes, Sirui/Manfrotto/Benro Sticks

Re: Mahon pool at sunriseWhat I find interesting in the second shot is that the 2 center posts are perfectly aligned to the horizon! I like that kind of stuff in photographs. Both images work for me and I don't mind the softness as it works with the theme. A small prop in the first image would have taken it to the next level....a model sailing ship with red sails set in the water, middle of the pool. Just imagine.

Re: Mahon pool at sunriseHmmm...just noticed my unintended pun in the above statement.....anybody?

Re: Mahon pool at sunrise
G,Day Surenj. No there weren't any swimmers when I took the photos. Some showed up just as I was leaving. I thought about going back to use them in the shots, but my battery was out of charge. I intend to go back there again, only this time I will check the tides before I go. Oh yeas, and make sure my camera has a full battery charge. Regards A camera in the closet gathers no photos
Re: Mahon pool at sunrise
G,Day Matt. I was trying to get as many poles as close to the horizon as possible. I found that only #1,3,4,and 5 were any-where close. The images could have done with a touch more sharpening, but the ability to gauge whats not enough, to much or just right will come with experience. A point of interest would have been nice, Some swimmers arrived just as I was leaving, but I had no more battery life left. I must admit that I never thought about taking a small prop with me to place in the scene, but I will think about it in the future. Regards A camera in the closet gathers no photos

Re: Mahon pool at sunrise
G,Day Surenj. I'll check to which format my shots are in. I was not aware that shots in adobe RGB had an issue on the web. Thanks for the heads up. Regards A camera in the closet gathers no photos

Re: Mahon pool at sunrise
that pretty well sums it up for me. gerry's photography journey
No amount of processing will fix bad composition - trust me i have tried.
Re: Mahon pool at sunriseWell picked Cameron! Little sailing boats don't have props.

Re: Mahon pool at sunriseI like both, and the colour contrast in them.
