VHS player???

Postby aim54x on Tue Dec 11, 2012 9:13 am

I have been set a near impossible task, Dad's VHS player has finally given up the ghost, leaving him with a pretty good collection of tapes and no player....has anyone seen a VHS player (or combo device) that is available to purchase (hopefully new). Thankfully we moved him over to DVD a few years ago so it is only the legacy stuff that he has in VHS.

So far I have only found:
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/media-players/lg/dvd-recorder-vhs-combo-sku-67760/
also available at Bing Lee, Target and possibly Hardly Normal at the same/similar price.

One suggestion might be the LG RC689D. This is a VHS/DVD Recorder so it would serve 2 purposes. I also believe that you would be able to transfer the VHS tapes to DVD with this unit (has to be confirmed). A little pricey but for what it is capable of it’s the ants pants lol

Dick Smith sells it brand new for $349

It's also about the only VHS player that's currently on sale.

I needed to buy one myself, after (1) discarding all of my old VHS recorders/players and then (2) realising that I still had a lot of content on tape.

Also, this may be a good time for him to think about transferring them to more modern media.

I picked up one of those 2nd hand off ebay for $60 The heads on the vhs side were not too good but the dvd side was perfect so I used a second vhs player connected to the lg to transfer tapes to dvd. A brand new one would make the transfer job really easy.

Perhaps get him to skip the DVD. Perhaps harddrive.
