wow, im torn...at first i thought this would be a classic mono image, now im not so sure. there is a warmth to the colour version which you just lost so i prefer the colour. its a beautiful candid.

I think that the B&W needs a broader range and more contrast. There's no solid blacks, nor any solid whites, to complete the spectrum.

You've nailed the light: the face is beautifully and evenly lit. This is a wonderful candid portrait.

Thanks for the comment. You are right, all I did was to
desaturate the colour image. I made this version by
discarding all the colours in the raw file.

I prefer this second mono conversion to the first Zafra - has a more "glowy" look (and I like what it's done on the face and hair better)

I like the coloured shot the best. It makes the glow on her face more obvious.

The second B&W has brightened up too much in the wrong areas IMO. Her arm and the paper are really bright now and the background is leaning that way too. The colour version has that on the paper too, but I find it less distracting with the warmth in the face coming out.

The second B&W is much better, but to my eyes it still needs extra contrast.

as you suggested. I added a bit more contrast.

BW meh. The colour version all teh way. The warmth of the light is lost in the BW versions and for me this is key to generating the mood associated with late night study.
