Night Storm

We had a storm come through on Tuesday night so I went out to try and capture some lightning strikes.

Most of the lightning however was sheet rather than fork and therefore came home with only a couple worth keeping even then I question that! The colours presented are 'as seen' and something I had not seen before, normally a lot cooler in colour.





While waiting for the lightning show, I noticed a few cars coming over the brow of a hill and this was the result. I quite liked the flare and diffraction produced and the lights picking out the power cables overhead.

Nice work there Geoff.....The sky is pretty epic in #1, but it can do with a big of a tighter crop, maybe play with removing some of the RHS and bottom. #2 has great timing but once again I feel that there is a lot of excess space so a trim would be something I would explore as well. #3 has very nice flare that adds to the image, I love the flare and the power lines, but it needs something else to hold it together, something to link the headlight and the flare....do you have any other similar images

I would look at a crop on #1 on the rhs and a very small amount off the top, same thing with #2 but with more off the top. Not sure about #3, like Cameron said needs something else.

love the third, dunno why. Just grabs me.
I agree something could be done to get alittle depth to it but what I don't know

My interpretation of sheet lightning is cloud to cloud, where we do not generally see the lightning strike as it is hidden by the cloud. All we see is a lightening (note spelling) of the cloud. Fork lightning on the other hand is cloud to ground where we actually see the lightning strike earth.

Both lightning shots are already cropped to 2.39:1 cinematic ratio but I will take another look at options.

#3 image was the only frame I shot of this type, as just after I took it the heavens opened and dumped some rain.......time to pack up and go home!
