They look just dark and dull overall but I think it may be because it looks unbalanced - the symmetry isn't working like you/we want. You're aiming for left/right and top/bottom (reflection) symmetry but it's not really happening here - the reflection isn't strong enough (time of day/conditions) and the left/right is heavy on the left with the buildings/clouds - maybe if the buildings behind weren't there and you just had the memorial and the trees (and the trees had more detail)? Or maybe I'm just talking out my a$$

Thought on these?

Thanks for your honesty Rodney. With #1 and #2 I was shooting with the Voightlander 20mm + a B+W 10-stop ND to try and get a better reflection by flattening the water, I guess this didnt work too well. The combination of the filter and lens has always provided me with a wealth of fall off (as evident here). I guess these two should just be a case of going back and reshooting in better conditions.

The first three are nice, but just the wrong time of day. It would be good if it was a longer exposure. This way, you would get the clouds and the water moving, then have a nice contrast to the buildings.

In the third one, crop out the encroaching OOF leaf.

Not sold on the fourth one as the people talking aren't that interesting. I like the elements you have there, the objects and people at different distances to you offer a depth to the image. Keep working on this but be mindful of an interesting pose or something that will hold the viewer.

Seems to me the first two were still quite short exposures considering the ND10 used.
I assume the vignetting is care of the lens in use and not added... might be worth trying to ease it back a bit in PP.
The memorial shots have too much water doing too little.

Previous responses really sum up my opinions too. The first two may benefit from a contrasty monochrome conversion?

Midday sun, shot without closing the lens too far....I think PiroStitch is correct about the time of day!
