AirStash - SD Card wireless Host for iPhone etc

Postby photohiker on Thu Feb 21, 2013 3:58 pm

Every now and then I get stuck: I have a camera and an iPhone and I wnt to email or post an image on the web from the camera - there is no way to move images from the camera to the iPhone without a computer. The 'Camera Connection Kit' from apple works on iPads but useless for iPhones. Beats me why this is the case, they both have the same connector. Grumble

While trying to find a way around that problem, I found this solution:

The World's Only USB & SD Wi-Fi Flash drive for iPad & iPhone

Wireless Media Streaming for iPAD, iPhone, iOS, Android and most other portable Wi-Fi enabled devices!

Easy Photo Importing, 2-Way File Transferring, Making Presentations and File Sharing

Totally expandable memory with SD,SDHC,SDXC,UHS1 card slot

CNET Airstash Review

Marketed by Maxell at $100+ prices (cheapest I have found is from tapesplus $119 + freight, including a Maxell Class 10 8GB SDHC card)

Will update this thread when it arrives, I'm hopeful this gadget will save me from having to drag around a laptop for the occasional transfer requirement.

What about an EyeFi card?
That will work straight from the camera to an iPhone.

Yes, good gadget, but for me that would mean that every SD card would have to be an Eye-fi and I have a stack of 95MB/s cards already. Eye-fi is about 50% dearer than an equivalent class card, and I'd have to buy the wifi on every card for it to be useful...

Also, if you check Rob Galbraith's card database, the Eye-fi cards don't rate next to the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s I use.

I don't want to transfer every image to the iPhone...

That is an interesting find! Definitely something that could be useful for those of us who dont want to go down the Eye-Fi route... I wonder if they have (or will do) a CF card version.
