Miky Way with the X E1Here is my first attempt at shooting the milky way with the Fuji X E1 and the kit lens. I intend to get a wider lens for this type of thing but undecided on the 14 2.8 for its faster aperture or wait for the 10-24 f4 for the wider FOV. With the ISO capability of the X cameras f4 may not be such a problem. I will have another go with the kt lens at f4 and a higher ISO to see how that works out.
Shot at 18mm, f2.8, 20s, ISO2000. Fuji X-Pro1 | X-E1 | X-T1 | XF14 | XF23 | XF27 | XF35 | XF56 | XF60 | XF10-24 | XF18-55 | XF55-200 | MCEX-11

Re: Miky Way with the X E1Thats pretty fine Geoff - although they do say for these milky way star shots the faster the better... I'm keen to try my new 35/1.4 when I'm out in the country sometime to see how it fares. You may even need to drop the exposure time to get sharper stars - I think the "formula" says to use a shutter speed faster than 500 / 35mm equiv focal length.

Re: Miky Way with the X E1That is lovely!
Re: Miky Way with the X E1Had another crack at this, shot at 18mm, f4, 17s, ISO1600. The 'smudge' on the bottom edge, I am guessing, is a cloud.

Re: Miky Way with the X E1Such a tiny camera....such a big subject. How did you fit it all in? Seriously though, shows the quality of the Fuji lenses and sensor and the skill of the photographer. Nice work!

Re: Miky Way with the X E1Nice stuff indeed Geoff. One day I would like to photograph the heavens, (and some waterfalls). There is so much to learn with this craft!

Re: Miky Way with the X E1Thanks all for your comments. Winter in the southern hemisphere is the best time of year for shooting the Milky Way so expect to see a few more soon! The reason for this experimentation is due to a pending overseas trip in Dec/Jan where some of my time away will be in Finland where I will hopefully capture the Northern Lights.
