Troubles in Egypt

I took the following photographs today at a demonstration against the military action in Egypt.

This is Mamdouh Habib who was held in Guantanamo Bay prison for 3 years. He is a man who is not afraid to stand on a platform and defend his beliefs


These Muslims were praying just 30 feet from a Christian church in the CBD. That demonstrates the wonderful capacity of our society to encompass all beliefs.

Excellent pics but I am disturbed by having children enact something that they in their innocence would have no idea what is going on so it is down to the parents and their propaganda.

I also question why a dual citizenship person (Mamdouh Habib is Egyptian/Australian) would be in Pakistan looking for work in 2001. Habib was supposedly tortured by the Pakistanis, Egyptians and Americans but the only government he sued was the Australian and we paid him - give me strength.

These are good social documentary photos and your
choice of B&W inmost of them adds the journalistic
touch. I also liked the subdue colours in the colour
photo.

On the political front, I love our secular society and
is because of this that we all enjoy political freedom
and the freedom of belief and worship in Australia.
Respect for the laws of the county and for each other
are two cornerstones in democracy, which I believe
have sadly been compromised in Egypt.

I also believe that no Australian should fight in a war
unless it is in defence of his/her country or officially
sent by our government. I want to add that I have dual
nationality, but I love this country too much to abuse it.
I feel that mercenaries should face the consequence of
their acts without Australian protection.

you mean like religion in and of itself ? lol

matt, I like the 2nd pic the most. there is an intimacy and feeling part of the protest that is absent from the others due to their wider angle.

I echo these sentiments. I would say it's disgusting seeing these little kids being used by their parents in this way. They should be at home playing hopscotch or kicking a ball, just being little kids. Why are taking away our children's innocence these days?

However, great photos Matt! Seems like you really got in close to the action. You've certainly provoked a reaction with the images!
