Night SkyI went away for a few nights and was staying in 'The Lost World Valley' approx 1 hour drive SW of where I live. Now while I live in a low populated area we do have some light pollution from the Gold Coast which affects the chances of 'good' night photography. The accommodation, a farm stay we booked into however was a little more remote, so no light pollution (when looking due west), we had clear skies and the moon rise was not until approx 10pm, all contributing to ideal conditions for a bit of night sky photography.
All of these images were shot with the Fuji XE1 and XF14. The first is a two image stitch with the last of the colour from the setting sun and with the Milky Way on the LH side of frame (will have to try and get a bit more detail out of it). This image looking roughly NE and hence some light pollution from the Gold Coast. Last edited by Geoff M on Mon Sep 30, 2013 10:31 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Night SkyI prefer the 3rd pic. Did you use some telescope?
Re: Night Sky
As per opening post so no telescope, just a wide angle lens equivalent to 21mm in FF bodies. Just goes to show how big the Milky Way is Fuji X-Pro1 | X-E1 | X-T1 | XF14 | XF23 | XF27 | XF35 | XF56 | XF60 | XF10-24 | XF18-55 | XF55-200 | MCEX-11

Re: Night Sky#1 is an absolute delight!
Re: Night SkyI just find difficult to believe a prime lens like XF14
practically with no magnification can take photos like that. My next question, is how long did it take? Because that view is hidden from the human eye.
Re: Night Sky
Exposure for the 3rd image, was 25 seconds @ f2.8, ISO 2000. Exposure time any longer than 25 seconds you will start to see movement of the stars particularly towards the edge of frame. As you rightly point out, you cant see this detail with the naked eye so framing for composition is a bit of trial and error. Re: Night SkyMy latest attempt taken Saturday from my backyard. Could not manage a wider view as the roof of my house and surrounding trees encroach the framing.
