Shooting koalas in Victoria. With a camera.

Spent the day at Cape Otway, Victoria. What an incredible place. There were koalas everywhere and I just so happened to have my trusty Nikon V1 handy...

Actually, photos 1,2,3 are of the same koala. He was sitting in the middle of the highway, so I stopped and ushered him into the scrub. I then followed him for a while until he climbed a gumtree. He was nice enough to pose several times without attacking!

Very nice, I like them. It is even nicer to know
these are wild animals and they do exist outside
reserves and zoos. I had to go to one of them to
show my family back in Spain they still exist despite
bushfires, floods and road kills.

Your koalas' faces tell me they did not like being
photograph, even by such an illustrious photographer
as yourself. I hope you made them sign a model
release...

Thankfully Zaffs there are thousands of them down here. I did tell one tourist to make sure he didn't touch them as they are spiteful little critters (but more importantly I think we don't want to give them any "human" germs).

Getting them to sign the paper wasn't a problem, but I can't for the life of me understand Koalese. :biglaugh:

Koalese? :D  :D

Every one of my nephews got a Koala from me the first
time I saw him/her after being born. One of those
souvenir toys made with kangaroo fur. Even the daughters
of my best friend got theirs. It became an expectation.

Last time, I had to explain my godson (6yrs) that real koalas
had very different colour and type of fur. He thought we had
them in the backyard, so they were very surprised when I
told them I had not seen ever a real koala and I had to
promise him I would.

Anyway, this year I took myself to Alma Park zoo and I
got myself photographed holding a koala and sent it to
them. The lady koala I held in my arms was lovely and
very friendly, but she was more interested I climbing me
up like a tree and inspect my bold head and although, she
was gentle she had very sharp and respectable nails.
