Angry little fellas

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

A great series Chris, the first and last are my pick. Nice lighting.

Chris,

I really like #3 - the "eye" contact of the wasp sends a shiver down my spine.

I have had several encounters with these beasties so I admire your determination in setting up the camera in a position to get the shots (regardless of shooting with wifi).

Yes, great lighting. Any flash?

thanks all.

victor these are with the em1 and i believe for a couple they had a flash mounted and bounced off the wall.
i then mounted the d800 and extension tubes and thats when things got very hairy and several sorte's had to be avoided.

the em1 holds its own at web size albeit with a bit of tweaking. but the detail of the d800e at full res and SOOC is unreal. these are the d800 ones.

Outstanding Roozsy. You have done well to get this close. I did get stung in the eyelid one day by an angry European wasp, so I have the utmost for these beautiful little critters. I have just as much respect for you in getting this close!

Yep - that last one is pretty epic - it's interesting that the DoF of the EM1 shots seem to be a lot less than the D800 - I totally would have expected both the half size sensor and the working distance to way in it's (the Oly's) favour. Looking again - perhaps it's just that the focus drop off on the D800 is sharper and the EM1 sort of just gradually blurs which I think I like less?

Thanks Ozi. There were a few close calls focussing the d800, I won't be making a habit of it.
Rodney, think the oly was being shot at f5 and the d800 was f11ish. I prefer that pop the d800 gives aswell.
