I sooo wish he was in the snow. I love the dog but the background just looks wrong. Maybe try a B&W conversion and dial in a green filter to lighten the background?

I agree with the comments above, but I will go a bit further to suggest you should crop tight and eliminate as much grass as possible taking care to ensure the visible eye fall close to the top left 3rd. Give it a try and see if the image improves.

I think the B&W looks a lot better. Now the dog pops off the background beautifully. Nice detail in the image, it's a good photograph. I think had you got down to the dogs level it would have had even more impact. (note to photogs....never photograph something from the point of view that the viewer would be likely to see it).

Yes, the second version works better for me. You made the background complimentary to the subject; the dog is not a black blob on a nice green patch of grass. The background directs the viewer's attention back to the subject of the photograph.
