What is it that you like about the lighter colour, kipper?
(and yes, I know this is a stupid question, much like "why is the sky blue"... but I had to ask...)

The white looks kind of pro. Just trying to recall what colored lenses all the pros had at F1GP. Lots of whites if I recall

An aspiring professional photographer hey. I could think of a lot worse professions.

Yes, and they have no choice! You're with the superior brand, offering a superior selection of coloured finish for your pro lenses!

Nice shots Onyx of the lenses with the kit. Again shows the versatility of the kit lens

Not trying to hijack the OP, but I want to share some unremarkable test shots of the same lens.
Let's say I am very pleased with this lens. It was a great birthday present.
All shots were handheld with VR on normal.
It a heavy lens, but I will grow more muscles to use this monster of a len.
The shots are in the lab were I work. Some were in the car park and some nurses questioned me over the shots. Prob thought I was shooting pics of the residential apartments near the hospital.

Congrats!
The 70-200VR's family is now outgrown
Last December, were 4 or 5 of the 70-200VR among the group.

Yup, definitely a great lens. I love mine.
CricketFan's review is pretty much on the money. The VR is fantastic.
To those querying the weight, yes, it is a reasonably heavy lens to handhold for long periods and it sure makes the camera bag heavier too
Monopods definitely help with the weight, and are especially useful if you are using a TC as well.
Interesting that the Canon lens is much more along the sizing/shape of the older 80-200 Nikkors.
Smile; it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

ECS has some in stock now but the go price is $2850. Its maxwell stock and hence expensive compared to asia and the rest of the world. http://www.europeancameras.com/

Owning this lens, I must say I am very happy with the purchase (although it took me awhile to convince myself that it was a good purchase) and even though it cost me $3300 back in october 2004.
Works reasonable well with the 1.7tc I have, but is awesome by itself.
you get what you get, always learn from the mistakes
