Who owns what you see?

This is a very disturbing development. What arrogance is displayed by some who think they can profit from the view of the skyline. If you drop a 20 million development in front of my landscape then who the hell do you think you are to propose that I, or anyone else, must pay a fee to photograph that view just because you dropped your development right in the middle of it? The world is going nuts!

that said, if you have every been out to the new container terminal at Botany and tried to take photos, they actively prevent you from doing so (in the name of security or some shit).

I guess, Biggerry, that the copyright's owners would contact you asking to remove the picture from wherever it is or pay some kind of royalty for its use e.g. the Botany terminal's owner demanding payment for the picture you posted above, which you just sold for 1.25 millions bucks. Incidentally, I like it very much but I don't have that kind of money.

My wife took a photo at Clumber Park in the UK ( A National Trust Property) some trees beside a lake, which she uploaded to Redbubble, no buildings and nothing else to distinguish this area from thousands of areas with the same scenery. How ever she named it something like "A lovely winters day at Clumber Park" I think about a month later she received an email from RB to let her know that the National Trust had requested they remove it from the web site!! That gave her quite a shock and made her feel like she had broken the law! Mmmmh!

If it's within a "private" area - some place where entry is restricted, and that would likely have been the case here - then the chances are that this is not a public place, and thus photographic privileges may be restricted.

I can recall being at the Getty Museum in LA a few years ago, and photographing a beautiful and ornate French concert grand harpsichord that was in a French period display. I had a security guard come up to me and ask me to not take any photos, and I complied with his request.

That's when the fun began: I noticed that he was now following me to see if I was complying with his request, so I went this way, then back, then that-a-way, then back, with this idiot following me all the way. May as well have some fun at his expense.
