Lenses for Panasonic GH4

Postby ozimax on Wed Jan 06, 2016 6:58 am

I'm heading, with trepidation, back into video land. I've shot quite a few videos over the years but only with either my old 5DMkii, or iphone. I picked up a brand new GH4 last week for, in total, about $700 AUD, a bargain in my calculations. I have an Olympus 45mm to go with it but need something of a normal lens. The obvious choice would be the 12-35 Panasonic, which sports IS. Another option is the new Sigma 18-35 F1.8 which is roughly the same price as the 12-35, but would need the new Metabones adaptor to work, which is expensive.

Any thoughts, advice, comments from the sages at DSLRusers-empire would be appreciated, with thanks.

Ozi.

No advice here, since I'm a complete noob at lens selection, but congrats on the deal for the gh4.

Do you need AF?
I've used an adaptor for my Nikon lenses on the gh3 but it's MF only.

AF not absolutely necessary Piro. I only have Fuji lenses at this stage (plus a Canon 100-400), so I'm open to all suggestions. The Metabones' adaptor looks great but it's ridiculously expensive so I'll pass on that.

As mentioned before, I have an Olympus 45mm, and there is coming a (free by redemption) Panasonic 25mm/1.7. That may be enough to get me started down the video road. I have tried a few videos in the past with Fuji but they're not quite there at this stage. Panasonic 12-35 has OIS but it's expensive too.

Many thanks.

The adaptors I use are around 200-230 HKD (~$42 AUD).

Ah the wonders of linking to Dropbox.

There are two adaptors. One is for M43 to Nikon and another M43 to Leica M mount lenses.

Thanks Piro. I assume there is a Canon to M43 version available too?
