Noo Zooland North Island. Again.

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

These all look to have a HDR feel to them, while not being overdone.

And I love the pic of your hotel in #3.

Nice photos, but in my view that hdr effect adds a feel of artificiality to gorgeous landscapes. I think many people use hdr not because a photo needs it but add an effect. Was that your intention?

No worries Zaffs and a good question. Actually nos 2 & 4 are SOOC. 1&3 have had some post processing but I can't remember what I did to them. I just try filters/sliders/buttons etc and see what looks good to my eye and monitor.

I like those tree trunks, lots of potential there.

I think alot of people will see HDR, however newer cameras just have great dynamic range and hence even straight outta the camera they can look hdr-ish. This is a two edge sword, since a scene with very little in the shadows often lacks depth, mystery and interest, on the flip side having all that detail and your histogram nicely balanced means you can really sculpt that light in processing to achieve really nice shots.

Take your hotel shot for example :) nice subject, cool textures but comes across flat. By returning some mystery to the shadows and shaping the light it may help make it more interesting and get the eye to travel through the image rather than be smashed by light :)
here is a 2 sec crack from my end - just a thought.

I like it Gerry. Definitely an improvement on my effort with more depth to the image. (Unfortunately I am not a PS guru like you, but just a trundler. :D)

I've actually thought of a possible DSLRusers' thread consisting of posting unedited images and getting our members to do their own edits and then re-post. We might all learn some new techniques?

Not a bad idea and also you would get different takes, as members would put their slant on the image.

I like to see where this would lead to.

Sounds great. Maybe "Free Edit" section where members offer their images (raw or jpg) to our esteemed sages (or to newcomers) to edit away and post their results.

Now that is the question indeed. I have no idea.

And now for something completely different (and original) for Mr Stark:

A - It was David's son, Abseil-om.
